Q4-DLP-Coordinate System
I.LEARNING OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT The learners demonstrate understanding of the relation of geographical location of the Philippines to its
STANDARDS environment.
B. PERFORMANCE
Analyze the advantage of the location of the Philippines in relation to the climate, weather and seasons
STANDARDS
C. MOST
ESSENTIAL
LEARNING
Demonstrate how places on Earth may be located using a coordinate system (S7ES-IVa-1).
COMPENTICIES/
SPECIFIC
OBJECTIVES
Cognitive: Identify the imaginary lines of the coordinate system;

LATITUDE LONGITUDE
Before we proceed with our lesson, can everyone please read our
lesson objectives.
(Students read the lesson
objectives.)
2. After studying the globe and the image on the right, try to define
“equator” in you own words. Give your own definition when your
teacher ask you.
4. Study the drawing on the right. It shows the latitudes and the
longitudes.
J. Discussing new Guide Question:
concepts &
practicing new 1. How will you define equator in your own words? 1. (Answers may vary)
skills #2 (Explore)
2. What are the two poles of the globe?
2. The north and south pole
3. Differentiate Northern and Southern
hemisphere in your own words. 3. (Answers may vary)
Latitude Name
0 Equator
23.5 N Tropic of
Cancer
23.5 S Tropic of
Capricorn
66.5 N Arctic Circle
66.5 S Antarctic Circle
Longitude
- are vertical lines; it gives
the measurements east or
west of the Prime Meridian.
- are imaginary lines running
from the North Pole to the
South Pole. -
- Lines of longitude are often
referred to as meridians.
- Meridians are important for
setting time zones.
- Longitudes are measured in
equal degrees per line.
Equator
- an imaginary line dividing
the earth’s surface into two
hemispheres; Northern
Hemisphere (half of the
globe from equator to North
Pole) and Southern
Hemisphere (half of the
globe from equator to South
Pole).
- is located at zero degree
(0º). With the Equator as the
reference point, the North
Pole lies at 90°N and the
South Pole lies at 90°S.
Prime Meridian
- an imaginary line dividing
the earth’s surface into two
hemispheres; Western
Hemisphere and Easter
Hemisphere.
- serves as a reference point
for measuring the distance
east or west, located at zero
degree (0º) at Greenwich,
England.
- The farthest point eastwards
from the Prime Meridian is
expressed as 180°E and the
farthest point westward is
expressed as 180°W.
L. Finding practical Scenario:
applications of
concepts and skills Have you tried to visit a place for the first time? For instance, you
in daily living are going to Pasig Mega Market, if you are unfamiliar with the
(Elaborate) location, what is the best way to
find specific stall or food section in the wet market?
