HOUSING AUTHORITY OF LINCOLN COUNTY

HUD CHOICE VOUCHER HOUSING ASSISTANCE

(Also referred to as the Section 8 Program)

The HUD Choice Voucher Program is the most popular housing assistance program the Housing Authority
administers and has the longest wait to get assistance. If you make application for this program you can
expect to wait a minimum of one (1) year and possibly longer depending on funding from the date of your
application before housing assistance could be available.

The Choice Voucher Program serves applicants who are handicapped, disabled, 62 years or older, families
(consisting of two or more persons), and who are income eligible. All family members will be required to
disclose and submit documentation to verify their Social Security numbers. The wait list is currently closed
to single applicants who are not disabled or 62 years or older.

Your family must be income eligible to qualify for the program. Check the chart below by the number of
people in your household for eligible income limits. Once a Choice Voucher Application is received and the
family is income qualified to receive assistance, the application is placed on the Choice Voucher waiting list.
This list is kept in date and time order of receiving your completed application.

• Persons who work or reside in Lincoln County will receive preference points on the waiting list.

• It is important that you keep the Housing Authority updated with your correct mailing address during
your waiting time since you will only be notified by mail when assistance is available.

• You can also apply for more than one type of housing assistance and be on several waiting lists so
make sure to check out our other housing assistance programs.

Once you receive your Voucher, you will be able to find a housing unit owned by a private landlord. The
Voucher holder pays approximately 30% of their adjusted annual income as monthly rent to the Landlord and
the Housing Authority Voucher pays the balance. The family is responsible for any deposits required by the
landlord. Payment Standards listed below are used in determining the amount of assistance each household
