Chemistry Part 2

Children’s Book Project – 200 points

This project is one of your choices for the culminating project for Science class – Chemistry
Part 2. It is to be a story about the topic in chemistry that you chose. Remember you must
write a story that will TEACH young children about a specific issue related to chemistry. You
have already chosen this topic, so you should have an idea of what you plan to do. Be careful to
use vocabulary correctly and explain it to your audience (children) in your book/story. You will
lose credit if you use words incorrectly. Be mindful that this is a children’s book…do NOT
put anything inappropriate in the story nor in the pictures.
Your book project has 2 parts:
Part 1 – write the book
Part 2 – read the book to a group of 1st or 2nd students.

You must include in your book:


1. You must have a cover page that is neat and gives a clue to what your story is about.
Use bold lettering to make it look like a real children’s book.
2. Title page has a graphic or fancy lettering, has title, author's name, and a picture.
3. The book should very well organized. One idea follows another in a logical sequence with
clear transitions.
4. Use scientific vocabulary clearly making sure to explain the idea to teach your audience
5. You are required to have 10 separate pages of the story with pictures illustrating what
is written on that page.
6. You should have 2-4 sentences per page that describe a step in your routine. Be careful
to use a variety of sentences. Sentences should be creatively written with correct
grammar, spelling, and complete.
7. Be sure to include chemistry vocabulary that you have learned in class while studying
chemistry.
8. Be careful to use vocabulary correctly and explain it to your audience (children) in your
book/story. You will lose credit if you use words incorrectly.
9. Be mindful that this is a children’s book and do not put anything inappropriate in the
story nor in the pictures.
10. The final draft of the story is readable, clean, neat and attractive.
11. This assignment is worth 100 points total. Earn every point you can!!!!

Presentation:
1. You will be reading your book to a group of 1st or 2nd grade students.
2. Your presentation will be an additional 100 points.
