The Capstone strand I have chosen is a project capstone. Proposed title for my Project
Proposal: Fitness Education Channel (FEC)

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question
that connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a
question that you cannot just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone
booklet.
My inquiry question is: How can I create a platform that will help both people who are new to, or
interested in fitness and those who may be intermediate lifters to safely reach and achieve their
fitness goals?
Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you
are choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry
connect to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?
Starting training is difficult, it’s uncomfortable, challenges your ego and preconceptions of yourself
and overwhelms you. I started lifting after losing a massive amount of weight and then realized that
I didn’t like looking skinny either. 3 years later, working out has become a major part of my life and
of who I am. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and experience in weightlifting and fitness over this
time, and I can use those to help others on their fitness journey.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this

area of inquiry?

My prior experiences in this area are that I’ve spent 3+ years lifting weights and 5+ years playing
rugby. In my years I’ve learned a lot about biomechanics, biochemistry, training philosophies and
concepts, body processes and responses. I’ve picked up many tricks for recovery and maximizing
performance through diet and behaviours. .I’ve taken every science course available at R.E
Mountain to learn about these things and done my own research based on scientific studies.
Kinesiology is a relatively new science so previously determined information is always being
updated, which has greatly increased my interest in the area.
Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What
connections does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

Fitness is a huge part of my life, and doing a project like this that requires me to research fitness
and recovery will aid me long term with my own training and grow my fitness knowledge. This
could lead to a career in content creation or as a form of personal training/physical therapist job
but I’m not interested in pursuing those.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core
competencies will be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections that connect with my capstone are,
This capstone covers a lot of bases in terms of core competencies, critical thinking when analyzing
sources and the context of which studies are done, who is funding them and interpreting the
information provided. It involves creative thinking as this project while educational has also been
created with the goal of also being entertaining to watch, either by incorporating skits, using
humour, editing to add to the content, not take away as well as using engaging visuals. As you can
imagine, this capstone is time consuming and will require a lot of time management.

Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to
present your project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once
completed. You may use a combination of mediums.

I will use the YouTube channel I have created to present my capstone.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what
will you research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced
at the end of this project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your
proposal.

Summary:
What my capstone will entail is the research, recording and editing of educational videos
about weightlifting, diet and recovery. These videos will be uploaded bi-weekly to a YouTube
channel I have created. By the end, I will have created a free resource for new lifters and people
who may just be interested in fitness to learn from and grow. This project has a lot of creative
freedom and endless possibilities and potential for what can be created and will hopefully be of
benefit to someone in the Langley, or fitness community.
Research:

Research for this project will be mainly focused on studies and reports on what variables
can affect growth, performance and recovery to back up or disprove common conceptions.
Additional research on biomechanics and muscle activation and contraction will also be required.
Interviews with local bodybuilders would be very insightful and helpful, not just with the creation
process but with content as well.
Production:

Videos can range from tutorials on exercises, muscle groups, form, or workouts with weights, from
home or with no equipment to explanations or deep dives on supplements, window feeding, gym
language, what to look for in a machine, nutrition, fitness misconceptions and debates, and recovery
techniques. Videos after editing should be around 8-16 minutes and maintain a standard of quality.
Some videos will be capstone progress reports/behind the scenes snapshots (at least 3, these will
not be included in the bi-weekly schedule).

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills

you will need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn
all of the resources necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

Resources required for this capstone would be, two electronic scales (a food one and a bodyweight
one), access to a gym, a public park, ability to make home ‘equipment’, laptop/computer, adobe,
YouTube and an account to upload on, Experience with or at least knowledge about research topic
(see sources and research plan), recording devices (audio and video). Skills required are editing
and the ability to cook without safety concerns.
Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will
you need to help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you?
What is your plan to access the mentorship/community connections necessary for this
project?

I hope to be able to connect with a few local bodybuilders, powerlifters and members of my gym
who I look up to. I would like to speak with them and learn about their training philosophies and
their insight on the topics I plan on covering.
Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you
foresee that might affect progress with your Capstone Project?
Limitations to this project could be creativity/writer’s block, time management and technology
barriers (my laptop doesn’t work on my home wifi).

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about
your project that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

References: Provide a literature review of 5-10 PEER REVIEWED ACADEMIC references:

research, videos, etc. that offer some preliminary research you have done for your project
that shows you are able to access the key information that you will need to be able to
complete this project/work. Your list should be written using correct APA formatting.
