Rolls - Royce: 250 - C47B Operation and Maintenance
Rolls - Royce: 250 - C47B Operation and Maintenance
This chapter contains Model 250--C47B Engine FADEC Fault Codes and Cockpit Flashing Light
Display. When using a maintenance terminal for troubleshooting, Table 1 or 1A cover fault codes
that are stored in the ECU as faults occur. Included in the table are fault words, fault descriptions,
fault causes, system accommodation, effect on engine operation, airframe indication and the po-
tential component failure. If no maintenance terminal is available, use the cockpit flashing lights
and table 4 or 4A for troubleshooting. Table 4 or 4A lists fault codes by name and shows number
of blinks displayed by each of the three lights to indicate the fault(s). Table 2 or 2A cover fault
codes that do not directly drive a cockpit indication, but could appear on the maintenance terminal
screen. Table 3 or 3A identifies those fault codes that are engine/FADEC systems related (i.e. --
limit exceedances).
If after shutdown there is a maintenance advisory (FADEC DEGRADED) indication and if upon
interrogation of the cockpit flashing lights there is not a flashing light code, a maintenance terminal
must be used to investigate for fault codes.
Although LRU’s and Probable Failed Components are listed, other potential sources of the fault
(i.e. harness, connector, etc.) should be investigated before changing the LRU.
NOTE: Fault code listing is all inclusive for software versions 5.100 and 5.202 and 5.356, al-
though not all fault codes apply to either software versions.
Table 1 or 1A provide a alphabetical listing of FADEC system fault words and FADEC system main-
tenance flags that can be displayed by the maintenance terminal and directly result with either a
FADEC FAIL, FADEC DEGRADED, FADEC FAULT, RESTART FAULT, or FADEC MANUAL indica-
tion to the airframe. The information in each of the columns in Table 1 or 1A is described below.
FADEC Fault/Flag: The maintenance terminal name from the FADEC fault or flag.
Fault/Flag Description: A brief description of each FADEC fault or flag.
Cause of Fault/Flag: A brief description of the failures that cause each FADEC fault or the
conditions that set each maintenance flag.
System Accommodation: A description of the FADEC System fault accommodation for
each fault.
Effect on Engine Operation: A description of the affects the fault accommodation may have
on engine operation for each fault.
Airframe Indications:
FADEC FAIL: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag results with and FADEC FAIL indication
to the FADEC DEGRADED: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag results with a FADEC DE-
GRADED indication to the airframe.

FADEC FAULT: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag results with a FADEC FAULT indication
to the airframe.
RESTART FAULT: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag results with a RESTART FAULT indi-
cation to the airframe.
FADEC MANUAL: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag results with a FADEC MANUAL indi-
cation to the airframe.
MAINT. ADVISORY: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag results with FADEC DEGRADED
indication to the airframe while the engine is shut down.
Detected System Failure: A listing of the FADEC sub--system that failed.
Potential Component Failures:
ECU: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag could result from an ECU failure.
HMU: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag could result from an HMU failure.
Airframe Harness: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag could result from an airframe har-
ness failure.
Engine/Interface Harness: An ”X” indicates that this fault/flag could result from an engine
harness or an engine interface harness failure.
OTHER: A listing of other FADEC or airframe components that could result with this fault/
flag.
Table 2 or 2A provide an alphabetical listing of FADEC system fault words that can be displayed by
the maintenance terminal but do not directly result with an indication to the airframe. All FADEC
fault words in Table 2 or 2A either set a fault word that appears in Table 1 or are set by a fault that
appears in Table 1 or 1A. The information in each of the columns in Table 2 or 2A is described be-
low.
FADEC Fault: The maintenance terminal name for the FADEC fault.
Fault Description: A brief description of each FADEC fault.
Cause of Fault: A brief description of the failures that cause each FADEC fault.
System Accommodation: A description of the FADEC system fault accommodation for
each fault.
Effect on Engine Operation: A description of the affects the fault accommodation may have
on engine operation for each fault.
Table 3 or 3A provide an alphabetical listing of all the Engine/FADEC system maintenance flags
that may be displayed by the maintenance terminal. The required maintenance action for each of
these flags is provided. The information in each of the columns in Table 3 or 3A is described be-
low.
FADEC Flag: The maintenance terminal name for the FADEC fault.
Flag Description: A brief description of each FADEC fault.
Cause of Flag: A brief description of the failures that cause each FADEC fault.
Maintenance Action: A listing of the applicable sections of the operations and maintenance
manual.
FADEC system fault words that may be displayed by the maintenance terminal but are not applica-
ble to the Model 250--C47B engine with V5.202 software are listed below. Occurrence of any of
these faults implies a FADEC system failure which can be isolated to either the ECU or its interface
with the airframe or engine interface harness.

Note 1:
The Reversionary Governor independently performs fault detection with its own hardware, and on the input signals it needs to assume control
in the event of a Primary Governor hard fault.
The following Reversionary Governor faults are associated with Item 2 from Table 4A, and indicate a hardware problem internal to the ECU:
AD10bitFltRG, ARINCFltRG, ARINCHdFltRG, ARINCHWFltRG, BacCompFltRG, EngRnCtPGFltRG, EngRnTmPGFltRG, ESWPGFltRG,
ForCompFltRG, P1RawPGFltRG, PGSDFltRG, PGSDHdFltRG, PROMFltRG, PW10LoFltRG, QFltRG, RAMFltRG, RGOTFltRG,
RGTempFltRG, SPITempFltRG, T1ARawPGFltRG, UARTFltRG, V10FltRG, V15nFltRG, V15pFltRG, V5qFltRG, WDTFltRG, WDTTimeOutRG,
WfCorrPGFltRG, WfCorrPGHdFltRG
The following faults are redundant to Primary Governor faults and the Primary Governor faults should be addressed first. This table entry is
applicable only if one of the following faults is indicated without the equivalent Primary Governor fault. Refer to FIM Task 73--25--04--161 and
FIM Task 73--25--04--158.

Note 1. With the Control System in AUTO Mode and the throttle in cut--off, motor starter up to
15% N1 to reset metering valve. Confirm FADEC DEGRADED light off when twist grip is
at ground idle before reattempting start. Do not attempt start if FADEC DEGRADED light
remains on; advise maintenance.
Note 2. To start engine, press and hold start button; release at 58% N1.
Note 3. N2/Nr droop possible following rapid power changes or control movements.
Note 4. After engine start verification of cockpit indication is required prior to dispatch.
Note 5. WARNING: Loss of aircraft electrical power to the ECU will cause a direct reversion
to manual mode. The pilot must be prepared for changes in power, including engine
overpseed.
Note 6. Ferry flight allowed only if FADEC DEGRADED (Maintenance Advisory) fault in indicated.
IF FADEC FAIL and Restart Fault are indicated, no ferry flight is allowed.
CAUTION: Overspeed protection could be disabled.
Note 7. WARNING: Hot Start Abort feature is disabled. Pilot must be prepared to abort start to
avoid turbine overtemperature during start.
