RATIONALE/OVERVIEW ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Pinamuk-an Elementary School to Pinamuk-an Integrated Farm School

Pinamuk-an Integrated Farm School is located at District II of Brgy.

Pinamuk-an in New Washington with an area of 7,449 square meters and
14.2 km away from the Division Office.

The school can be reached by riding a paddled or motorized banca, 2

kilometers away across Lagatik River of New Washington, Aklan.

The school was established in the year 1932 as Pinamuk-an

Elementary School, and with the grace of God, in the year 2012, the school
was granted a Government Recognition No. 015 s. 2012 as Pinamuk-an
Integrated School. Pervent hope of the parents to have an accessible high
school within the community was addressed. The school helped reduce the
number of out-of-school youths. Elementary graduates were able to
continue education at lesser cost. Further, it gave opportunity to all learners
to be in school.

When the curriculum changes to K-12 in line with the education

systems of other Asian countries, Aquaculture and GAS (Food and Beverage
as elective) were offered in Senior High School, under the term of Mrs.
Margie E. Reyes, the School Principal. Through the specializations offered,
learners were able to attend and experience work immersion. The fish ponds
and the fish cages where the learners conducted their work immersion is
owned by the school’s immersion partner, Punong Brgy. Belmore O.
Bonifacio. The learners’ knowledge was broadened, their skills were
enhanced and developed though most of them already acquired some basic
skills in aquaculture through their elders.
Department of Education (DepEd) Region VI inaugurated Farm
Schools in response to Republic Act 10618 (Rural Farm School Act) and
chose Pinamuk-an Integrated School as the first farm school in Aklan. The
school is surrounded by water, and fishing is its primary source of livelihood
which are the primary reasons why the school made it fit to be a farm
school. On June 18, 2021, the school was given a government recognition
No. FS-7, s. 2021 as Pinamuk-an Integrated Farm School under the
leadership of Mrs. Ma. Corazon T. Macahilig as School Principal. The school
has undergone transitions and is always looking forward for positive
changes whom learners, their families, the school, and the community as a
whole can benefit.

The school offered GAS and TVL as strands in Senior High School. For
Farm School, specialization in Aquaculture and Food-Fish Processing were
offered. Through these specializations learners will become productive
individuals equipped with knowledge and entrepreneurial skills to respond
the community needs for sustainable development.

The school together with its partners and stakeholders will continue
doing its best to keep producing and building learners who are equipped
with Food-Fish Processing, Agri-Fishery, and with great Entrepreneurial
skills. Farm School brings an open wide range of opportunities not only to
students but also to the entire community of Brgy. Pinamuk-an.

When students become technologically equipped and with great

entrepreneurial skills, for sure, there will be sustainable community
development, and we can now call our students “champions” because they
can compete to the rest of the world.

RHIAN NICOLE P. PELAYO

GRADE 8- EXODUS

I thought I would be just an ordinary high school student aiming to excel

academically like any other student, thinking of how I can improve myself and reach
my goal by just doing the usual, paying attention to the teacher, reviewing for the
written works, doing well in the performance tasks, and answering diligently during
exams, but being a farm school student means a lot. It completely changed the arc
of my academic life.
Living in an island barangay, I know how important fishing and aqua-farming are, as
primary source of livelihood, but farm school has given me deeper understanding of
its necessity. Through the seminar-workshops we attended, and the excellent
delivery of lessons made by the teachers, it opened our minds on the knowledge we
need to acquire, and it developed the skills we need to possess and master. Not only
to inform and to show us what people in the community are already engaging in, but
to have sustainable development which our Regional Director is always emphasizing-
to eradicate hunger and poverty by providing local communities sufficient food.
With the fish cage that we have, which serves as our aquaculture laboratory, we
learned to show care for fishes, how to feed and breed properly, to make them
ready for harvest, and to find out how much income we gain as part of the training
as young entrepreneurs. Farm school allowed us to explore things to give more
appreciation to what is relevant. It also made me realize that learning does not only
exist in the four walls of the classroom but at the moment you apply what you have
learned in the real life scenario. Farm school is realistic and responsive.
Teachers are not only highly trained in aquaculture but also in Food-Fish Processing.
Form them, we were able to learn to preserve food as sources of income and food
supply.
RHIAN NICOLE P. PELAYO
GRADE 8- EXODUS

Aside from what I have mentioned. Through farm school we are able to utilize
portable computer tablets to practice mastery of technology, to visit DepEd sites, to
answer online and offline activities, and to access modules with farm school
integration. Our English teacher does not only teach reading through paper but she
also sends remediation activities in the tablet for us to familiarize Aquaculture and
Food-Fish Processing Terms to practice pronunciation, and correct usage of words.
This is to not limit ourselves in acquiring knowledge or doing hands-on activities but
also to become better communicator. Farm school students are flexible, adaptable,
and holistic. If we are good communicators, we could better understand terms, people
and situations.
Farm school teaches us responsibility, accountability and involvement. Through our
learning journal, we are able to reflect on every detail of our actions. We are able to
measure our speed, our deed, the outcome, and the learning. So, the school as our
second home is continuously preparing us to be effective, efficient, and successful
citizens.
Recently, we celebrated our first ever farm school day. I found out that we were not
only the participants in the significant occasion, aside from the teachers, our parents
also gave their best to perform in each contest. Our school partners in different
organizations served as judges, therefore, farm school does not limit its impact and
influence to learners but also to the entire community.
As I end my speech, I want to thank God for the gift of aquatic resources, and for His
wonderful grace of sending all of you here in Pinamuk-an Integrated Farm School, as
we continue creating history.
When we students become technologically equipped in aqua-farming and food-fish
processing with great entrepreneurial skills, for sure, there will be sustainable
community development, and we can confidently call ourselves, “champions” because
we can compete to the rest of the world.

patungkol

MRS. GLORIA S. BENJAMIN
(Parent)
