I. OBJECTIVES 2. Compare the features of the layers of Earth’s atmosphere.
3. Explain the basis for the division of the layers of atmosphere.
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the different phenomena that occur in
the atmosphere.
The learners shall be able to analyze the advantage of the location of the Philippines
B. Performance Standards

lesson
C. Presenting  Present a picture of a human body uncovered with skin.
examples/instances of the  Have you ever imagined yourself skinless?
new lesson  What do you think is the role of your skin?
 Let the students relate the role of the human skin to the Earth’s atmosphere.
 Try to imagine the earth without an atmosphere. What do you think will happen
to planet earth?
D. Discussing new concepts EXPLORE (15 mins)
and practicing new skills #1
Activity: What Is The Basis for Dividing Earth’s Atmosphere Into Layers?
Instruction:
 The class will be divided into five groups.
E. Discussing new concepts  Each group will gather information about Earth’s atmophere based on the graph
and practicing new skills #2 posted on the board and the questions on the procedure to complete the activity.
 Fifteen minutes is given to complete the activity. And a representative from the
group will present their output to the class.

Objectives:
1. Describe the features of each of the five layers of Earth’s atmosphere.
2. Compare the features of the five layers.

Materials:
Ruler, Graph(figure1 page 312)

Procedure:
1. Study the graph.
Question 1. What are the five layers of the atmosphere? Estimate the height of each

layer.
Question 2. What is the relationship between temperature and height in the:
Troposphere?
Stratosphere?
Mesosphere?
Thermosphere?
Exosphere?
Question 3. Observe the whole graph. What is the basis for the division of Earth’s
atmosphere?

Rubrics:

F. Developing mastery EXPLAIN (15 mins)

(Leads to Formative  Presentation of group output.
Assessment)  What have you learned from the activity?
 Were you able to analyze and understand the graph very well?
 How did you differentiate each of the layers?
 What is atmosphere?
 In which layer is temperature increasing with increasing altitude?
 In which layer is temperature decreasing with increasing altitude?
G. Finding practical
applications of concepts and ELABORATE (10 mins)
skills in daily living  Students will watch short video about “Layers of Earth’s Atmosphere”.
 The teacher will ask follow up questions:
H. Making generalizations and 1. What are the distinguishing features of each layer?
abstractions about the 2. What objects are common to each layer?
lesson
I. Evaluating learning
EVALUATION (10 mins)
Imagine being asked by NASA to take a trip to space. "How do you think
the atmosphere changes as you pass through it to reach outer space?"

J. Additional activities for EXTEND (2 mins)

application or remediation
General Instruction: Just choose one of which you are comfortable doing among the
option on how you are going to describe the features of each layer of atmosphere.

Option A: Draw and label the layers of the atmosphere. You are also going to draw the
features or objects that can be found in each layer. Be creative. (Margin:
1cm all sides, Title: Layers of the Earth’s Atmosphere)

Option B: Create a 2 minutes MINI VLOG describing the different layers of the Earth’s
atmosphere. Be creative with editing your vlog and include your name
and section in the portion of your video. Send your output in the
messenger of your science teacher.

travelling through the different layers of atmosphere, describe the
features of each layer as you travel through an essay.

Rubrics for Scoring:

V. REFLECTION

A. No. of learners who earned

80% in the evaluation
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners who have
caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue
to require remediation

E. Which of my teaching
strategies work well? Why did
these work?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my principal or
supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovations or
localized materials did I
used/discover which I wish to
