1. (20 points) Assume that there are two independent normal populations, the first population
mean and standard deviation are 80 and 5 respectively. The second population mean and s.d
are 75 and 3 respectively. Random sample sizes of 25 and 36 are taken from the first population
and second population respectively. Compute the probability that the first sample mean is
larger than the second sample mean at least 3.4 and at most 5.9.

2. (20 points) In an Italian restaurant, the weights of 10 pizzas (in grams) cooked by Chef Sonya
are measured as follows:
19.8 12.7 13.2 16.9 10.6
18.8 11.1 14.3 17.0 12.5
At the same restaurant, the following day, Chef Sofya cooks 8 pizzas with a new recipe, and
their measurements are as follows: 24.9 22.8 23.6 22.1 20.4 21.6 21.8 22.5. Are the variances of
two populations equal? Explain it.

3. (20 points) The following data show the movie duration times (in minutes) produced by Ay
Yapim and MedyaYapim in Turkey.
Ay Yapim: 103 94 110 87 98
MedyaYapim: 97 82 123 92 175 88 118

Assume that movie duration times are normally disturbed with unequal variances. Compute a
90% confidence interval for the difference between the average movies times of produced by the
AyYapim and MedyaYapim.

4. (a) (20 points) A popular beauty salon owner claims that the waiting time to receive service
in her salon, on average, is 3 minutes with a variance of 1 minute. If, in one day, the
customers wait for 1.9, 2.4, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.2 minutes, find a a 95% confidence interval for
variance. And also identify that either her claim with respect to variance is true or not.

5. The proportion of voters who vote for candidate S in city A is claimed to be P = 0.6. To
test this hypothesis, 15 samples are taken and if the number of voters for candidate S in the
sample is from 6 to 12, the null hypothesis is not rejected, otherwise, the null hypothesis will
be rejected.
(a) (10 points) Assume that P = 0.6, compute type I error.
(b) (10 points) Assume that P = 0.6, compute type II error. How did you find the test?
