Speaker I : Girl Scouts all over the world celebrate Thinking Day on February 22 of every
year, to signify the great efforts and vital contribution made by the Scouting
Movement towards promoting world fellowship and peace.
This year’s theme is “Impact” which entails, in everything we do in Girl Guiding

and Girl Scouting has an impact has an impact on the lives of our members and
the people around them. By providing relevant, exciting, learner-led and
accessible environment for our youth members, they experience a positive
change inside them. As they develop different skills such as communication,
collaboration, character, creativity, commitment and citizenship, they get
motivated to make a positive change in the community and the wider world.
Hence, impact in Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting happens individually and
collectivity!
Speaker II : Thinking Day commemorates the joint birthdays of the Founder

of Scouting Movement, Lord Robert and his wife Lady Olave Baden Powell. It is
especially designated as international day to symbolize the unity of the members
of the World Family of Scouting, a day for “Thinking of each other and for circling
the world with a chain of warm, friendly thoughts.”
In 1912, Lord Baden Powell met Olave St. Clare Soames on a cruise. Olave and
Baden Powell not only shared same birthdays, but by the end of the cruise, they
were secretly engaged! Although born 32 years apart, Olave and Robert found
out that they had much in common: love of the outdoors, sports and music. They
were married later that year, and Olave became Lady Baden Powell and World
Chief Guide.
Speaker III : As we celebrate Thinking day, we should remember that in the

Fellowship of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts we have sisters from 146 countries
around the world; that we owe a debt of love and gratitude to our Founder and
World Chief Guide; that our dearest debt is to our Heavenly father who has
inspired our Leaders with such vision of the unity of mankind.
Speaker IV : On thinking Day, distances shrink, age difference vanish,

nationalities, cultures and creeds blend, people stand united as kind thoughts,
love and understanding circle the world. It is also a special time for our-
reaffirmation of the PROMISE made and rededication to the challenges and
tasks ahead. As the lines in our World Song go…” We must unite for what is
right”…” To give to all both great and small all we can give”.
All (Song) : GIRL SCOUTS TOGETHER
Girl Scouts together, that is our song,

Winding the old trails, rocky and long,
Learning our motto, living our creed,
Girl Scouts together, in every good deed.
Girl Scouts together, happy are we,

Friendly to neighbors’, far oe’r the sea,
Faithful to country, loyal to home,
Known as true Girl Scouts wherever we roam.
Speaker V : Let us build bridge of friendship, not of wood or iron stairs,

But with steps of understanding, to support a world of cares.
Let us plant a tree of peace, with tiny branches that will grow,
To bear the fruits of hope, and unite the earth we know.
Let us build a ship of trust, not from oak or tempered steel,
But with decks of honest service, on a firm and steadfast vessel.
Speaker VI : Lady Baden Powell in one of her Thinking Day messages said ad
we quote, “ Our kind thoughts take wings, and fly from country to country, far and
wide across the seven seas and, as our members increase each year, so the
strength of our feelings of friendship are expanding and all thoughts of goodwill
are unstilted value in this disturbed world in which we live today.”
All : Thinking Day gives us a major opportunity to help each other

through our voluntary efforts. It is for this reason that the Thinking Day Fund was
conceived. It enables girls and young women to reach their fullest potential and
become agents of the change they want to see in the world.
The donations and support raised for the World Thinking Day Fund allows girls
and young women from all five WAGGGS Regions, and from each of our 146
member organizations, to access unique and empowering non-formal
educational experiences. WAGGGS is able to continue to develop, share and
train members to advocate for important issues related to girl’s rights and to
support community initiatives and organizations on the working with girls and
young women everywhere.
Since 2010, one of the ways the World Thinking Day Fund has been used is
support for a range of Members Organization projects; everything from health
initiatives in Venezuela, to scholarships to international events for girls from the
Democratic Republic of the Congo and Yemen. Our Contributions will strengthen
our existence as a World Association.

At the Second round of the Song, participants fall in line and drop their Thinking
Day contributions in the Basket at the center while singing the Thinking Day
Song)
