The concept of the “Urban Living Room” is something that encompasses the development of the daily lives of the inhabitants of a city. Nowadays, the urban culture is such that, it rapidly transforms private
03 ARCH 502 spaces into public, challenging every city dweller to negotiate a lot more frequently between interior & exterior environment. This raises new questions like “what if the city was our personal
M.Arch responsibility?” Our city is our home, & therefore we can design them with attention to detail. We could treat every public space- every new building, every street & every corner of the city- as an extension of
04 Spring Quarter 2017 our homes. This was done very successfully in Copenhagen, Denmark with additions like the bike lanes on each street. As part of the ongoing development scheme in Copenhagen, the objective of this studio
project type: project was to activate spaces on the ground plane of an under-construction metro rail station, where people could gather throughout the year & catalyze the transforming process of the ever-changing city.

The Urban Forest comes from the idea of creating green in an abundance of built up concrete. This could be the start of a network of green pockets throughout the city. The overarching idea is to provide the city dwellers those active spaces
26 through the entire year. Winter gardens- spaces to activate the ground plane, making them social gathering spots, even during the colder months of the year; carnival & festivals for warmer months of the year.

My goal for this project was to teach children to interact with nature & gain from it.
03 ARCH 304 In this time of confusion, we are in desperate need of going back to nature. What nature does for us everyday is not unknown to anyone. Children of our time are taught many things, so that when they grow up they are instilled with good qualities & therefore are able
design studio VI to emerge as better human beings. But how often are they taught to respect nature? So through this project, I want to teach children about the ingenuity of nature. The concept was to create a space where children would subconsciously relate to nature & learn from
it.

Kids nowadays learn to draw, sing & dance through extra curricular activities. But they are not asked to be close to nature & appreciate it. This makes them become detached from nature. What if there was a way to keep them in touch with nature?

The age group I targeted for this project was 04-08 years; the reason being that at this age, children’s
brains develop at least 80% of the fullest form & they become aware of their surroundings. This would,
12 therefore be the perfect opportunity to encourage them to explore & strengthen their learning process-
both cognitive & intuitive by creating a playful & interactive environment. 3

Bamboo being a locally available material is used here to create the
18 central interaction area for the children. This acts as a transitional
element of the main design which gives the structure uniqueness &
also play a role where children can meet & socialize with each other.

– design-wise: raised podium is solid as opposed to hollow with columns to avoid water damage of the ground underneath when the water recedes after flooding.

“By promoting science, research and development will be greatly promoted”. From this vision, in 1983 an idea was conceived to bring all the non-governmental organizations under one umbrella by the Ministry of Science & Technology of the Govt. of Bangladesh. This will
03 ARCH 504 work as the centripetal organization for patronizing & promoting science & monitoring the growth & expansion of science from patronizing academies like the Bangladesh Academy of Science; gradually making the nation self-reliant in its technological needs. For a country
like Bangladesh with inadequate natural resources, national development and realization of the Vision 2021 goals will not be ensured unless it harnesses the benefits of science and technology in every conceivable area to increase productivity and Efficiency.
RATIONALE:
04 design studio X According to The National ICT Policy 2009 it is the goal to create a center of excellence in science and technological research to develop solutions to technological challenges and reduce dependence on foreign experts. From this point of view, this project can be an example. Also,
handling the issues of creating a contemporary building with required facilities that is energy efficient can be a challenge.

The roof is used as an observatory where different types of scientific events will be held. On a regular basis, it will be used for people, especially kids to peek into the stars. On special occasions, this observatory will host scientific events.

studio project Brief: Nature has been a constant source of inspiration for designers and have influenced the artwork in developing the themes & expression. The first term was about understanding nature in terms of
forms. Basic two-dimensional compositions with dots, straight lines and curved lines and geometric shapes to understand the relationship between solid and void in nature. The objective of the project
