Dotty the Duck (US Terms)

A Pretzal headz pattern


Approx 28cm in height

You will need

o Drops love you 6 in off white one 50g ball


o Small amount of Mustard for beak, and feet
o Small amount of blue and grey (if doing jumper)
o Small amount of black yarn for french knot eyes
o Toy stuffing
o Darning needle
o Stitch marker
o 2.5 m hook
Stitches
Sc, Single crochet
Sctbl , Single crochet through back loop
Sc2tog , Single crochet 2 together (decreasing)
2sc , Single crochet 2 stitches in 1 stitch (Increasing)
Dc, Double crochet
*, This means repeat a certain number of times

To make without jumper please just ignore the colour change requests on the body
section.

Head
Rnd 1, In off white yarn, Mc 6 (6)

Rnd 2, 2sc in each stitch x6 (12)

Rnd 3, *2sc, sc 1 *x6 (18)

Rnd 4, *2sc, sc 2 *x6 (24)

Rnd 5, *2sc, sc 3 *x6 (30)

Rnd 6, *2sc, sc 4 *6 (36)

Rnd 7 to 8, Sc round (36)

o Place marker at start of round, sc 24, join with a slip

stitch to your marker. (We will now work over these 24 stitches, the 12 unworked
will later become the neck)

Rnd 9 to 11, Sc round (24)

Rnd 12, *Sc2tog, sc 2, *x6 (18)

Rnd 13, *Sc2tog, sc1 *x6 (12)

Rnd 14, *Sc2tog *x6 (6)

o Tie off leaving a long length of yarn, whip stitch around the opening and pull tight
to close gap. Weave in end
o Stuff head
Body

Rnd 1, Join off white yarn to the underside of the head. We will now start to work on the 12
unworked stitches left at Rnd 9 of head, Sc round

Rnd 2 to 3 sc rnd (12)

o In blue

Rnd 4 sc 3,*2sc, sc 2,* x2 (15)

Rnd 5 sc 4, *2sc, sc3, *x2, 2sc, sc 1 (18)

Rnd 6 sc5, *2sc, sc4,*x2, 2sc, sc 2 (21)

o Change to grey

Rnd 7 sc6, *2sc, sc 5, *x2, 2sc, sc2 (24)

o Change to blue (change colour every row from now on)

o Now work in rows to make tail

Row 33 sc18, turn (this row will help your tail be in the right position on the top back of
duck)

Row 34 sc9, turn (this is where the tail starts, the remaining 15 will be worked on in row 44)

Row 35 sc2tog, sc5m sc2tog, turn (7)

Row 36 sc 7, turn

Row 37 sc2tog, sc3, sc2tog

Row 38 sc 5, turn

Row 39 sc2tog, sc 1, sc2tog

Row 40 to 42 sc 3, turn

Row 43 sc3tog, tie off

Your tail will now look like this.


Join back to edge of rnd 32 with a slip stitch, at the base of the triangle/ tail. There should be 15
stitches remaining.

Row 44 Sc 3, sc2tog, hdc 3, sc2tog, sc 3, sc2tog, slip into tail edge, ch1, turn (12)

Row 45 sc2, sc2tog, hdc 2, sc2tog, sc 2, sc2tog, slip into tail edge, ch1, turn (9)

Row 46 to 47 sc 4, hdc1, sc 4, slip into tail edge , ch1, turn,

Row 48 sc1, *sc2tog, * x3 slip into tail edge , ch1, turn, (6)

o Start to stuff the body and tail.

Row 49 *sc2tog* x3, slip into tail edge , ch1, turn (3)

Row 50 to 52 sc 1, hdc1, sc1 into tail edge, slip ch 1, turn

Row53, sc3tog, tie off

o You will now need to sew the small gap that is left at the tail tip closed.

Beak

Close opening with whip stitch

Joining
Beak

To join the beak you need to curve the beak around the curve of the head and darn around the edge
of the beak.

Eyes

Create your French knot eyes approx five rnds back from the beak and approx. 7 stitches apart

Feet

Sew them in place at the pointed end of the triangle to the body at rnd 15 of body and 8 stitches
apart
