    Honey Bee

    The honey bee is the name given to some species of bees that have the ability to produce
    honey and beeswax. Of all 20.000 species of bees in the world, there are only seven
    species that belong to the group of a honey bees. They are insects and all of them belong
    to the genus Apis. One of the most famous honey bees is the Western Honey Bee.

    There are three castes of honey bee and each of them has its job or function. The first one
    is the Queen. The queen is a female honey bee with the job to lay eggs and being the
    mother of all bees in the colony. There is only one queen in a colony of bees. An
    exclusive food called “royal jelly” is what makes a female honey bee grow larger than
    other honey bees and became the queen. The second one is the Workers. The workers are
    all female honey bees in a colony except the queen. They can consist of as much as
    60.000 bees in single colony. Some of their duties are: feeding the brood, collecting food,
    receiving nectar, cleaning the hive, guard duty, producing honey and also producing
    beeswax. The third one is the Drones. Drones are all male bees in a colony. The drones
    have one job only and that is to fertilize the queen during the mating process and will
    soon be dead after that.

    The largest species of bee in the world is the Indonesian resin bee which can grow up to
    the size of 39 millimetres and the smallest species is the Dwarf stingless bee with a size
    of 2 millimetres. They have the typical body of an insect with three sections: the head,
    thorax and abdomen. They have two large eyes, two antenna, a mouth and a long
    proboscis on their head. They use the proboscis to suck up nectar from a flower which
    later is kept on their hind legs. There are three pairs of legs and two pairs of wings on
    their thorax. There are nine segments on their abdomen and the last three segments are
    modified into the sting.

    Lebah madu adalah nama yang diberikan untuk beberapa spesies lebah yang memiliki
    kemampuan menghasilkan madu dan lilin lebah. Dari 20.000 spesies lebah di dunia, hanya
    ada tujuh spesies yang termasuk dalam kelompok lebah madu. Mereka adalah serangga dan
    semuanya termasuk dalam genus Apis. Salah satu lebah madu yang paling terkenal adalah
    Western Honey Bee.
    Ada tiga kasta lebah madu dan masing-masing memiliki tugas atau fungsinya masing-masing.
    Yang pertama adalah Ratu. Ratu adalah lebah madu betina dengan tugas bertelur dan menjadi
    induk dari semua lebah di koloninya. Hanya ada satu ratu dalam satu koloni lebah. Makanan
    eksklusif bernama “royal jelly” inilah yang membuat lebah madu betina tumbuh lebih besar
    dari lebah madu lainnya dan menjadi ratunya. Yang kedua adalah Pekerja. Para pekerja
    adalah semua lebah madu betina dalam satu koloni kecuali ratu. Mereka dapat terdiri dari
    sebanyak 60.000 lebah dalam satu koloni. Beberapa tugas mereka adalah: memberi makan
    induk, mengumpulkan makanan, menerima nektar, membersihkan sarang, tugas jaga,
    memproduksi madu dan juga memproduksi lilin lebah. Yang ketiga adalah Drone. Drone
    adalah semua lebah jantan dalam satu koloni. Drone hanya memiliki satu pekerjaan yaitu
    membuahi ratu selama proses kawin dan akan segera mati setelah itu.
    Spesies lebah terbesar di dunia adalah lebah resin Indonesia yang dapat tumbuh hingga
    ukuran 39 milimeter dan spesies terkecil adalah lebah stingless Dwarf dengan ukuran 2
    milimeter. Mereka memiliki tubuh khas serangga dengan tiga bagian: kepala, dada dan perut.
    Mereka memiliki dua mata besar, dua antena, mulut dan belalai panjang di kepala mereka.
    Mereka menggunakan belalai untuk menyedot nektar dari bunga yang kemudian disimpan di
    kaki belakangnya. Ada tiga pasang kaki dan dua pasang sayap di dada mereka. Ada sembilan
    segmen di perut mereka dan tiga segmen terakhir diubah menjadi sengatan.
