A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE FOR GRADE 7

 Lluisma, Kresha M.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the Grade 7 students will be able to classify the organelles of the cell according
to the four different major functions:
 Manufacture
 Breakdown
 Energy Processing
 Support and Movement

A. CONTENT STANDARDS
The learners demonstrate understanding of the difference between animal and
            plant cells.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
The learners should be able to employ appropriate techniques using the compound
microscope to gather data about very small objects.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES
Explain why the cell is considered the basic structural and functional unit of all
organisms; (S7LT-IIe-5)

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: Animal and Plant Cells
b. References: Science 7 Manual, Quarter 4, DepEd pp. 285-300
c.  Materials: printed materials, chalk, board, powerpoint
d. Concept:
Both plant and animal cells contain nucleus along with similar organelles. One of
the distinctive aspects of a plant cell is the presence of a cell wall outside the cell
membrane. An animal cell is a eukaryotic cell, meaning it contains nucleus and
membrane-bound little organs called organelles, which performs different functions
inside the cell.
            e.  Process Skills: Explaining, Classifying, Recognizing, Sharing
f.   Values: Cooperation, Participation, Teamwork

III. PROCEDURES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Activating Prior Knowledge

Good morning, Class! Good morning, Ma’am.

How are you today? We are fine, Ma’am.
May we all stand for the prayer.
Who can lead the prayer?
(Student will lead the prayer)

Okay, you may now take your seat.

Before we start the class, simple house rules

will be imposed all throughout the session.

(The teacher will read the house rules)

 Checking of Attendance
Let me check the attendance first.
Class officer/beadle, is there anyone absent
for today? None, Ma’am.

Impressive! Everyone is present.

Please keep all the unnecessary things in your

bags so that you can focus and listen well to our
topic.

Kindly pass your assignment in front. Make

sure you already read about it because it has
something to do  with our activity for today.
(Students pass their assignment)

REVIEW
 Review of the past lesson

Who among you can still recall our previous

topic?
Anyone? Yes, ________? Our topic last meeting was all about parts of
the plant and animal cells.
That’s right! Okay now, let’s see if you can still
identify the organelles in the cell.

What are the organelles found in both plant and

animal cells? Nucleus, mitochondria, plasma membrane,
cytoplasm, smooth and rough ER, golgi
bodies, lysosome, ribosome, vacuoles and
centrioles.

Chloroplast and cell wall, Ma’am.

What are the organelles found in plant cells only? The centrioles are present in animal cells
only.
What are the organelles found in animal cells only?
None, maam!

Impressive! Do you have any questions?

Very good class. I guess you are all ready for

our lesson this morning.

MOTIVATION

(Picture Analysis)

Who among you can guess what is going on in

the picture shown on screen? The picture shows what’s going on inside a
restaurant, Ma’am.

Okay, very good!

Brilliant! These pictures of the door, wall,

fridge, take-out box, tables and chairs, chef,
janitor, waiters and waitresses is what
comprises the restaurant.

All of these have a function to help the

restaurant run successfully.
Without these, a restaurant wouldn’t serve its
customers easily.

Just like a restaurant, animal and plant cells also

have parts that play important functions.

 Establishing a Purpose of the Lesson

At the end of the lesson the Grade 7 students will

be able to classify the organelles of the cell
according to the four different major functions:
 Manufacture
 Breakdown
 Energy Processing
 Support and Movement

B. Lesson Proper

Learning Task 1 - ACTIVITY

(Gallery Walk)
For today’s activity you will be experiencing a
“ Gallery Walk”. Are you familiar with this
class?

It’s like  visiting a museum.

As you can see inside our classroom, we have No, maam.

large sheets of paper placed on walls on
different stations of major organelle functions.

You are going to walk together with your group

mates and take note of the organelles under
each station by answering the checklist
provided. Each group will only be given 3
minutes to walk per station.

(The checklist)
After you finish visiting the 4 stations, you are
going to meet your group mates again for the
reporting wherein you will focus your attention
on your assigned station to report the
organelle’s function under it. Do this in 5
minutes only.

(see attached information of the major

function )

I have here 4 envelopes containing the 4

different cell’s major functions for both animal
and plant cells.
Please get 1 envelope.
(Ask the student what major function they get)
Group 1, what major function did you get?
How about groups 2, 3 and 4?

(The teacher groups the students and gives the

guide on the sequence of stations)

Now, here is your guide on the sequence of

stations that you will visit.  Manufacture

Any clarifications?

Wow! I guess you are all ready for this. You

may now begin.

……

(After 12 minutes)
Okay, you may now settle down. Kindly go
back to your seats to form a circle among your
group mates. None, maam!
Now collaborate with your groupmates. You
are going to report your assigned major (Students begin to visit the different
functions. stations)

Do not worry about the contents of the report,

you are all provided with guide questions for
you to answer.
There is an instruction inside the envelope for
your guidance. Please read.
For the rubric, please read it to guide you in
doing your task.
(see the attached rubric)
You will have 5 minutes to complete the task
and to answer the questions provided.
(Timer starts)
Okay, time’s up! Finalize your work for the
presentation. The sequence for the reporting is
indicated in your envelope.
Who’s the first reporter?
Okay, kindly stand here in front. Other groups
will follow.

Learning Task 2 -  ANALYSIS

Q for Support and Movement:
1. Explain the difference between cell wall
and plasma membrane in terms of their
function?

Support and Movement, maam.

2. What do you think will happen to the
cell if the plasma membrane does not
function properly?
(Students presenting their output and
reporting it to the class)
3. What is the function of centriole?

2. How can you tell rough ER from
smooth ER?

Centrioles aid in cell division by serving as

guides to the movement of chromosomes
when cells divide.

apoptosis.
You have learned that the cell is the basic unit
of life. All life forms are made up of cells.
(Students go back to their seats)
Cells consist of little organs called organelles,
right?

And these organelles have 4 major functions.

What are those 4 major functions?

Awesome!

These cells make up our bodies and other forms

of plants and animals.Without the cells, do you
think we and other living organisms will be able
to reproduce?

Why? (Applause)

Anybody from this class?

Yes, maam!

 Support and Movement

Very good! I’m impressed. We need each other

to reproduce and perpetuate our species, be it
plants or animals.

No, maam!

….

….
We wouldn’t be able to reproduce, maam.
Because as we all know, the cell is the basic
structure of life. Without the cell, there will
be no tissue to form the organs, organ
systems and the organisms. We the
organisms are responsible for reproduction
which result in creating a growing
population.
