Grade 7- Science Detailed Lesson Plan

Content Standard: Organisms interacting with each other and with their environment to survive.
Performance Standard: Conduct a collaborative action to preserve the ecosystem in the locality.
I. Learning Targets
At the end of a 60-minute discussion on Components of an Ecosystem, about 85
percent of Grade 7 must have:
a. defined an ecosystem;
b. differentiated biotic from abiotic components of an ecosystem; (S7LT-IIh-9) and
c. recognized the importance of knowing the ecological roles of each components of an
ecosystem .
II. Learning Content
A. Subject Matter: Biotic and Abiotic components of an Ecosystem
B. Content Outline: Review concepts on ecological organization
Define Ecosystem
Activity: Biotic or Abiotic?
Discussion on the components of an Ecosystem
C. Science concept:
 Ecosystem- environment that consists of different organisms where they live
 Biotic- living components of an ecosystem
 Abiotic- non-living component of an ecosystem
D. Science Process skills:
identifying interpreting Collaborating
Analysing reporting Critical-Thinking
E. Value Focus:
 Shows interest about the lesson.
 Collaborates with others in answering the activity.

Subject Integration Assessment

( Daily Routines)
Recalling the concepts of the previous lesson.
In the organization of life, what is the fundamental and basic unit
Formative Assessment
Review of life? Ans. Cell
-Question and Answer
Correct! All organisms are made up of cell.
In the ecological organization we have the C-T-O-OS-OR-P-C-E.
What are those abbreviations?

Motivation Establishing purpose of the lesson. Presenting the objectives. Word Puzzle
I have here a word with letters that are jumbled. Your task is to
guess what this word is.
SETYSCOEM Ans. ECOSYSTEM
-Integration English
Our lesson for today is about the components of an ecosystem.
In what component do you think does human belong?

Group the students into two groups.

Prepare the materials and let them do the activity.

Activity: Biotic or Abiotic? ( Differentiated

In this activity you should be able to: Instruction: Group
1.Identify the components of the environment. Activity, Reporting)
2.Compare the living and nonliving things, and
3.Describe the characteristics of each component of the
environment.

Biotic Component are the living things while Abiotic component Rubrics for scoring the
are nonliving things. report and outputs

Procedure: Delivery& Content

1. Get the materials from the teacher. - 10pts
( rock and living plant) Group Collaboration
Activities 2. Complete the table. Paste the fragments of words to its -10 pts
designated column. Neatness/Cleanliness
3. Write a summary of the data gathered and discuss it -5 pts
with the class. Behavior-5 pts

Answer the guide questions on your activity sheets. Share to the Total of 30 pts
class your group output.
Q1. What are the things that you see?

Q2. Describe each material.

Q3. What are the common characteristics of each material?

Q4. Complete the table provided for your group.

Q5. Compare the characteristics of each material.

Write a summary.

Discussion of the answers and concepts.

What are the materials being identified?

Integration of ICT.
Are both found in the environment?

What are the distinct characteristics of both materials?

The environment is a collection of living and nonliving things.

Organisms interact with each other and their environment to
meet their basic needs and survive.
Abstraction
Biotic components of the ecosystem usually grow, move,
breathe, reproduce, feel emotion and death.
These are animals, plants, bacteria, protest, fungi and protozoas.

Abiotic components of the ecosystem usually is the opposite of

biotic component. They do not grow, move, breathe, reproduce,
feel emotion and death.
These are the sunlight, air, water, soil and temperature.

Let’s watch a video of how these two components interact with

the environment.
Base on the video shown, identify the different biotic and abiotic
components. List the biotic components that are commonly seen
around us either in school, home or roads. Cite the different
abiotic factors that influences the absence of some biotic
Application
components in our environment.

Why do they have polar bears while we in the tropical countries

do not?

Assessment Their activity will serve as their evaluation/ assessment.

List down the different interaction of organisms in the

environment.
