SCIENCE DLP - Interactions Among Living Things in Coral Reefs and Tropical Rainforest
SCIENCE DLP - Interactions Among Living Things in Coral Reefs and Tropical Rainforest
SCIENCE DLP - Interactions Among Living Things in Coral Reefs and Tropical Rainforest
I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, pupils are expected to:
a. Identify the interactions of living things found in coral reefs and tropical rainforest.
b. Discuss and describe the interactions among living things in coral reefs and tropical rainforests
c. Recognize the importance of maintaining diversity of living things in the coral reefs and
tropical rainforest ecosystem
Materials: Picture of Coral Reefs and Rainforest, Pictures of Organisms found in the coral reefs and
tropical rainforest, video, Cartolina, crayons/ colored pencil, marker/pentel pen
Science Processes : Identifying and Differentiating
Science Concept: Ecosystem is composed of living things (biotic factors) and non-living things (abiotic
factors), as well as their interactions with each other. Coral reef ecosystems are underwater ecosystems
formed from the skeleton of tiny, marine invertebrates called corals. Tropical rainforests are the Earth’s
oldest living ecosystems, dominated by tall, evergreen trees.
III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
A. Preliminary activity
1. Daily Routine
a. Prayer
b. Opening Song/Energizer
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Greetings
2. Drill
Shown below are pictures of the new ecosystems you are going to
learn. Guess what ecosystems they are by arranging the jumbled
words that accompany them. You can challenge yourself to do this
activity within a maximum of 2 minutes.
CORAL REEFS
RCAOL SEFER

3. Review
Yesterday we have discussed about
ecosystem.
What have we discussed yesterday?
An ecosystem is a geographic area
where plants, animals, and other
So, what is ecosystem? organisms, as well as weather and
landscape, work together to form a
bubble of life. Ecosystems contain

factors, or nonliving parts.
4. Motivation
B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. Presentation
In this lesson you will learn about tropical rainforest, and coral
reefs and their components and how do they differ from one
another. (Teacher may have a video presentation before the
activity)
(Teacher Demonstration):
The teacher will set up a short film showing about the
interactions of living thing in the ecosystem.
Guided Questions:
3. Group Activity
Group the learners into 4 and give the respective tasks for each
group. Choose a rapporteur to present your output. To this activity
in the maximum of 20mins.
Group 3 – The learners will act out as Mr. Forest and Ms. Coral
Reefs and introduce their components.
Group 4 – The learners will draw a food web in a Tropical
rainforest ecosystem and explain.

Abiotic and non-abiotic components
Group 1 to Group 4
Nonliving components are very
How is an ecosystem an example of a system? important. Air is nonliving. Air
contains oxygen which organisms need
to breath to live. Air also contains
carbon dioxide. Plants need carbon
dioxide to produce their food. The sun
is nonliving. Plants need the sun to
produce their food. Animals need the

Are nonliving components of an ecosystem important? Organisms interact to meet their needs
for food to survive. Food is the energy
they need to survive.
B. POST-ACTIVITY
1. Generalization
- How living things depend on each other in different ways?
- Why is it important that the diversity of plants and animals
maintain the natural balance of organism in nature?
2. Application

IV. EVALUATION
Test I. Identification
Direction: Look at the following pictures below. Identify the type of interaction shown by the
following organisms
1. External Parasite on Fish 4. Orchid and a tree

Direction: Discuss within one to two sentences how the given living things interact with each
other and specify what kind of interaction.
V. ASSIGNMENT
In the space below, draw and color your own ecosystem. Be sure to include at least 5 biotic factors
and 5 abiotic factors.
