ACTIVITY PROPOSAL

I. Background and Rationale

Supporting an Enabling Atmosphere for Children and Youth Network for Peacebuilding Goals (SENANG),
a project funded by the European Union, aims to contribute to conflict prevention, crises response, and
peacebuilding in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) by fostering
inclusivity for children and youth, leading intergenerational dialogues on social cohesion in conflict-affected
areas, and strengthening state and nonstate peace mechanisms. Specifically, the project aims to further
hone the capacities of children, youth, and civil society in their participation in prevention and resolution
of conflicts.

The need for lasting peace and healing in the Bangsamoro region is of paramount importance to ensure
the well-being and harmony of its communities. BARMM has a rich cultural tapestry characterized by its
diverse ethnicities, languages, and religious beliefs. However, it has also been marked by a history of
conflict, which has led to social divisions and the marginalization of certain groups, including children and
youth with diverse gender identities. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity and the active participation
of all members of society in the peacebuilding process, the advocacy and communication workshop for
children and youth seeks to make a dent in the current child rights governance and peacebuilding efforts.
Additionally, the unique challenges faced by children and youth with diverse gender identities are often
overlooked, contributing to further marginalization and exclusion from formal dialogues related to peace
negotiations and social healing programs of the government.

Sangkad Hiraya and Ndayo ta ko Marinaw peace action networks (PAN), together with the Rawaten
Children Advisory Council (RCAC), aspire to lead and streamline the collective cultivation of a culture of
peace among children and youth in BARMM. By capacitating PAN members with skills in peace advocacy
and communication, they are more equipped and prepared to promote safe, neutral spaces for peace and
to meaningfully participate in the efforts to make peace sustainable and inclusive.

II. Objectives
 Enhance children and youth peace leaders’ knowledge and skills in influencing state policies on
children’s participation in peace processes and peace advocacy work;
 Codesign innovative peace advocacy strategies that promote active engagement, empowerment,
and leadership opportunities for marginalized children and youth, ensuring their meaningful
participation in peacebuilding processes; and
 Develop gender-responsive key messages and effective communication approaches to engage
and educate audiences about the significance of including young women and other gender
minorities in the issue of peace.

III. Methodology

 Contemporary Peace Advocacy – Participants will be able to examine the intersections

between gender, advocacy and campaign processes in the Bangsamoro region, fostering a deeper
comprehension of their interplay, through a workshop, writeshop, and intensive lecture on (1)
gender in peacebuilding, (2) peace communication, and (3) peace advocacy and campaigns
planning. The results of the training needs assessment shall further inform the workshop
facilitators on the appropriate methodologies to be used.
