1. After learning about business analytics (BA) and business intelligence (BI), come up with a
comparison between the two.

• Description analytics are the main emphasis of business intelligence; they highlight
events that have occurred or are occurring right now by providing a picture of previous
and current data. Predictive analytics, on the other hand, combines data analysis,
modeling, and advanced analytics to estimate the probability of future outcomes.
Business analytics.

2. Galleto (2018) mentioned that “While Business Intelligence answers what happened, Business
Analytics answers why it happened and whether it will happen again.” What are your thoughts on
this?

• Business intelligence provides the responses to the questions "what" and "how" so that
you can reproduce what performs and modify what doesn't. With the use of Business
Analytics, organizations may better understand "why" things happen.

3. As an exercise, look on the web for examples of data service providers. List them down. What

4. Trace the evolution of business analytics by writing down the features of analytics (i.e., its
application, tools used) as employed in the following eras:

PREHISTORIC

According to history, early humans used tools like sticks and stones
to gauge how well new inventions would go in the marketplace.

INDUSTRIAL (1800S)

Business management emerged as a scientific field in the wake of

the industrial revolution. In order to measure the time it took to
assemble a component, Henry Ford used this approach on his
brand-new Model T assembly line.

INFORMATION AGE (MID-20TH CENTURY)

With the development of the Decision Support System in the 1970s,

computers played a critical part in the development of business
analytics. Data warehouses, the initial incarnation of today's server
farms, also become prominent around this time to assist organize
massive volumes of data.

INTERNET AGE (21ST CENTURY)

For the most part, analytics were only used at the most senior levels
of firms and companies. Then came the Internet, massive data, and
the cloud. Because of the vast volumes of data being generated
every day, analytics are now available and inexpensive to businesses
of all sizes. Business analytics has evolved to the point that it can
help anticipate future processes and behaviors in real-time.
