    Ex 2 - Chapman

    May it please Your Lordship, I am Anthony Modeste and I appear for the
    prosecution in this matter.

    My Lord, It is my respectful application for an adjournment of this matter due to


    the following reasons.

    My Lord, first, I acknowledge that it is within the right of the defendant to apply
    for bail before your Lordship. However, I have been instructed that because the
    application was served on the police three days ago, two customary elements in a
    bail application is incomplete. Namely, the tracing of the accused and the summary
    of facts, both of which are vital components in deciding bail. I have been instructed
    by the police bail officer that an additional week is required to complete the
    investigation.

    Therefore, My Lord, I respectfully request that this matter be adjourned to a date


    convenient to the court. Unless there is nothing further that I may assist Your
    Lordship on, that is my application.

    Ex 3 – Holding for James Cricket (Adjournment or Stand down)

    May it please Your Worship I hold for Mr Cricket who appears for the defendant
    Mr Tom Reckless.

    Your Worship, it is my respectful application for an adjournment of this matter.


    The main ground for this application is that, Mr Cricket, due to unforeseen reasons
    is unable to appear before your worship today. Further, Mr Cricket is due out of the
    country from tomorrow, therefore, I respectfully request that this matter be
    adjourned to next Friday.
    Unless there is nothing further that I may assist Your Worship on, that is my
    application.

    ii. Your Worship, I ask that this matter be stood down to after 1 pm because Mr
    Cricket is unable to appear at this time.

    Ex 4 - Resist Application for an adjournment

    Your Worship I appear for the applicant Ms Cuffy in this matter of a Protection
    Order.

    Your Worship, I strongly reject the defendant’s application of an adjournment of


    this matter based on the following grounds. It is submitted that my client has
    sustained substantial injuries which were inflicted by the Defendant. The medical
    report has indicted the severity of the injuries and Ms Cuffy’s present physical
    appearance bore the result of the defendant’s violent actions. In addition, she has
    received further threats of continued violence, including death threats. It would be
    in the best interest of my client that we proceed on the matter for a Protection
    Order, notwithstanding the absence of legal representation of the Defendant.

    Therefore, I strenuously reject the submission that this matter be adjourned.

    Ex 1 – Holding for Ms Cherry

    May it please your Worship, I hold for Ms Cherry who appears for the defendant.

    Your Worship, it is my respectful application for an adjournment of this matter.


    The basis for the application is that I only received the brief of this matter this
    morning and consequently, I am not well versed with the intimate particulars of the
    matter, and I do not wish to prejudice my client’s legal standing because of this.

    Therefore, respectfully I ask that the matter be adjourned to a date convenient for
    the court.
    Unless there is nothing further that I may assist Your Worship on, that is my
    application.
