5. Perform the different stages of mitosis/ meiosis through singing, dancing, broadcasting and oral
presentation.

II. CONTENT
Subject Matter: Comparing Mitosis and Meiosis

Subject Integration:
a. Mathematics- Learners will able to identify the number of daughter cells, chromosomes produced
in Mitosis and Meiosis.
b. Filipino- Learners will be able to present through sabayang pagbigkas or oral presentation with
hand movements.
c. English- Learners will be able to explain the lesson through broadcasting, oral presentation.
d. MAPEH- Learners will be able to compose a song and perform a dance presentation.
Arts- Learners will develop their creativity in making a model of different stages of mitosis/meiosis
out of modeling clay.
e. TLE- Learners should maintain the cleanliness of their working area. (Integration of RA 9003),
ICT Integration (Video clips & Power point presentation) – Students will be able to use their
gadgets like cellphone and laptop in their presentation.
f. EsP- Learners will develop the sense of cooperation, unity and teamwork in doing and performing
varied activities assigned by the teacher.
g. AP- Students will be familiarized with the term equator from the globe.
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide: pp. 222 - 225
2. Learner’s Guide: pp. 317 - 328
B. Materials: Activity sheets, Manila paper, double sided tape, Paper plate, Modeling clay (different
colors), Mystery ball, Video clips, Power point presentation

IV.PROCEDURES
PRELIMINARIES (2min)
 Greetings of students
 Daily Routine (Classroom Management)
 The teacher post on the screen the House Rules for today’s lesson/ activity.
 Students pick up litters in the area where they are seated. (RA 9003)

A. ELICIT (5 min)

Mystery Ball Game Activity

 The teacher starts the recalling activity through “Mystery Ball Game”.
 The teacher will play a music and while the music plays, students will pass the ball until the music
stops. The student who is holding the ball will open the first cover and he/she will be the one to
answer the question written.
 There is a prize written in every cover of the ball, the student who answers the last question will
open the mystery ball.
B. ENGAGE (10 min)
Organize Me using Graphic Organizers Activity

 Compare mitosis and meiosis by answering the assigned activity by group.

 Students are encouraged to actively participate in the group activity.
 Every group will have their presenter.

GROUP 1 – Compare mitosis and meiosis using table/ chart.

MITOSIS MEIOSIS

Type of cells

No. of daughter cells

No. of chromosomes

Diploid or Haploid

Number of division

GROUP 2 - Compare mitosis and meiosis using Venn Diagram.

GROUP 3 - Compare mitosis and meiosis using diagram/drawing of cells.

GROUP 4- Compare mitosis and meiosis using flower organizer.

C. EXPLORE (10 min)

ACTIVITY: The “SHOW ME” Activity (Collaborative Learning / Model Construction)

Materials Needed: Paper plate, modeling clay, scotch tape, double sided tape, laptop
Procedure:
 Students will make a model of stages of mitosis and meiosis using a modeling clay. Every group
will also prepare a power point presentation on the events happen in the stage of mitosis/
meiosis assigned to their group.
 Students are given equal opportunities to share their ideas and opinions while doing their activity.
 The teacher will call for a presenter in every group.

GROUP 1 – PROPHASE
GROUP 2 – METAPHASE

GROUP 3 – ANAPHASE

GROUP 4 – TELOPHASE

EXPLAIN (15 min)

 Students will explain the different events that will happen in every stages of mitosis/ meiosis.
 The teacher will post a picture and students will tell something about it. The teacher will use the
inquiry based approach in order for the students to think critically and give the importance of cell
division.
Key Questions:
 What does the picture show?
 Has your body changed in the past six months?
 How did you recognize this change?
 Are you taller? Did your hair grow? Did you clip your toenails?
 Has anyone get wounded recently?
 Why do cells need to divide or reproduce?

Performance Task
 To apply what the learners learned on the topic, the teacher will assign for a group presentation/
performance task showing the stages of mitosis/ meiosis. (Differentiated instruction)
 Students may use their gadget/ cellphone for their music background that may enhance their
presentation.
GROUP 1- Present the stages of meiosis through Broadcasting.
GROUP 2- Present the stages of meiosis by Composing a song/ Singing.
GROUP 3- Present the stages of mitosis through Dance presentation.
GROUP 4- Present the stages of mitosis through Oral presentation.
 Criteria or RUBRICS for their performances will be given.
Content ---- 40%
Quality of Performance ---- 30%
Teamwork/ Cooperation ---- 20%
Audience Appeal/ Impact ---- 10%
100%
ELABORATE (8 min)

Students already know the difference between mitosis and meiosis, to deepen the lesson, students will
watch a video clip on “How cancer starts”
Key Questions:
1. What is cancer and how does it start?
2. What makes a cell turn cancerous & divide uncontrollably?
3. What is the difference between benign and malignant tumor?
EVALUATE (8 min)
 The teacher will conduct a short formative test to assess them on the lesson taken.
 Test questionnaires will be provided to the students.
