NARRATIVE REPORT ON WINS EVALUATION

The advocacy on the promotion of correct hygiene and sanitation practices


among school children and a clean environment has been the government’s priority
through the Department of Education to keep the learners safe and healthy, excel
academically and develop to be productive citizens in the country. states that the most
common hygiene deficiency related infectious diseases in public schools are due to
inadequate water and functional sanitary facilities, if unattended, these will lead to
malnutrition, poor physical growth and other diseases like anemia, toothache among
others. In 2016, the Department of Education issued DepED Order No. 10, “Policy and
Guidelines on the Comprehensive WASH in Schools Program for the promotion of
correct hygiene and sanitation practices among school children and a clean
environment in and around schools to keep learners safe and healthy.

The world’s problematic environment has its on children particularly in health and
academic performance that trapped in a cycle of diseases and poverty for a lifetime .
Nearly 90% of the world’s school -aged children live in low and middle income countries
where living conditions often result in high prevalence of poverty-related diseases.
Whether at school or home, overcrowded buildings, lack of clean water and sanitation
facilities, poor awareness and poor personal hygiene practices are the root causes of
many diseases; and so is the lack of healthy and balanced diet. Infectious diseases like
diarrhea, respiratory infections, skin diseases, worm infections and dental caries are
very common, considered normal, socially accepted therefore neglected. (Monse,
2010).
In line with his the Department of Education, Division of Bukidnon, Health
Department , headed by our District Nurse Jonah Villamor with the help of our very
supportive District School In-Charge and School Heads, they conducted an evaluation
for the proper implementation of the said program at Kibawe National High School last
July 21,2021.Part of the evaluation was checking of the WinS six goals namely: prevent
hygiene related disease, promote health seeking behavior and life skills, improve
attendance and participation, help them thrive and learn better, promote gender
equality, affecting children’s right to health while its five (5) areas namely: water,
sanitation, hygiene, deworming and health education with critical indicators in each
areas and the schools will be rated according to the three (3)- star rubrics.

After the evaluation , our teacher gained praises from the visitors for the outmost
implementation of the program in their respective classrooms though there are some
lacking facilities but rest assures for further improvement.

NARRATIVE REPORT ON ORIENTATION OF SCHOOL READINESS CHECKLISTS

Worldwide the education of an estimated 1.54 billion children has been affected by the
COVID19 pandemic (Global Education Cluster, 2020). School closures are risking
children’s health and wellbeing with negative impacts on learning outcomes and welfare
(UNICEF & WHO, 2020a). Early research findings1 suggest that children are at lower
risk of contracting COVID-19 than adults. However, children are still able to catch it and
are potential transmitters of the virus (Watson, 2020). The decision to re-open a school
must be guided by a risk-based approach taking local epidemiology into account (WHO,
UNESCO & UNICEF, 2020). Analysis of data at the end of 2020 from 191 countries finds
that re-opening of schools with mitigation measures in place has not affected
community infection rates or increased risks for teachers (UNICEF, 2020a). Although
there are less cases among children, a number of factors make spread more likely.
These include the large number of contacts children have at school and a higher
tendency to put their hands in their mouth (CDC, 2020). International guidelines
emphasise the importance of hygiene in schools to reduce transmission.

In order to check the readiness of School, the Department of Education ensures that
students, parents and visitors entering the School is safe. Thus Wash in School
Monitoring form,
Health Declaration Checklist for Students, visitors and teachers and Checklist to Assess
the Readiness for Safe Return to School is being monitored and submitted quarterly for
monitoring.
All school staff and students need to be educated with regards to hand hygiene,
respiratory etiquette, mask use, and recognizing symptoms (WHO, 2020). Orientation
training is needed for all staff and community members so that they are aware of their
specific role (WASH in Schools Network, 2020a). All school staff and students need to

NARRATIVE REPORT ON LISTING OF ELIGIBLE GROUP FOR COVID VACCINES

Vaccination is a simple, safe, and effective way of protecting people against


harmful diseases, before they come into contact with them. It uses your body’s natural
defenses to build resistance to specific infections and makes your immune system
stronger.

Vaccines train your immune system to create antibodies, just as it does when it’s
exposed to a disease. However, because vaccines contain only killed or weakened forms
of germs like viruses or bacteria, they do not cause the disease or put you at risk of its
complications.

Without vaccines, we are at risk of serious illness and disability from diseases like
measles, meningitis, pneumonia, tetanus and polio. Many of these diseases can be life-
threatening. WHO estimates that childhood vaccines alone save over 4 million lives
every year.

Although some diseases may have become uncommon, the germs that cause
them continue to circulate in some or all parts of the world. In today’s world, infectious
diseases can easily cross borders, and infect anyone who is not protected

Two key reasons to get vaccinated are to protect ourselves and to protect those
around us. Because not everyone can be vaccinated – including very young babies,
those who are seriously ill or have certain allergies – they depend on others being
vaccinated to ensure they are also safe from vaccine-preventable diseases.
As a way of supporting the government to make it easy and fast, Schools clinic
in-charge are hereby directed to submit a list of teachers and staff of their respective
school for allocation of vaccines. Thus our new District Nurse Lea Pequiro facilitated an
orientation on how to use the program from the Regional Office to facilitate easy listing
of the participants.

The conclusion after the listing is that 5% was listed with comorbidities, 2%
doesn’t want to get vaccinated and 93% is in the eligible group ready for vaccination.

NARRATIVE REPORT OF RE-ORIENTATION OF WINS TO SCHOOL CLINIC-INCHARGES

WASH IN SCHOOL (WinS) PROGRAM Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in Schools
(WinS) is a program that focuses on the standards for the promotion of a clean and
safe school environment and correct hygiene and sanitation practices among learners,
and that is implemented side by side with the Essential Health Care Program (EHCP),
Deworming, and other related school health projects of DepEd. The goal of this
program is to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment in school and enable
children to be in best condition to participate and learn in school. Cognizant of DepEd
Order No. 10 “Policy and Guidelines for the Comprehensive Water, Sanitation and
Hygiene (WASH) in Schools (WinS) Program”, clean water, functional toilets and proper
hygiene practice in schools are essential to achieving learning outcomes and are
integral to school operations and improvement. In response to that program and goal,
PAAES had took part during the One Health Week kick-starts of Oplan Kalusugan sa
DepEd featuring the five major school health programs of the Department.
Focal persons, medical personnel, school officials and stakeholders had attended the
said launching.

The school conducted Re-orientation to the clinic teachers in the entire west district of
Kibawe. The purpose of which was to enhance stakeholder involvement and mobilize
local resources. During the orientation, school needs were discussed and solutions/
recommendations were noted for the realization of the project. One main problem of
the school is the water supply, and with the helped of the PTA fund, connections to
every classroom were given priority and water now is available for the use of the toilets,
for daily handwashing with soap and toothbrushing of the pupils with the supervision of
the teachers and classroom leaders. Supply of drinking water to every classroom could
not be catered by the MOOE. Teachers tapped the support of the parents and now
every classroom had drinking water available anytime. Almost 95% of the pupils had
toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and towel and those were evident in the classrooms.
Another problem was the waste management. The school had taken a slice from the
MOOE to rehabilitate the Waste dumping site and was already functional for all grades
to use with the observance of proper waste segregation. Every classroom, with the
helped of the parents, had provided also 3 trash bins for the purpose and pupils were
given proper orientation on waste segregation.
Installation of another washing area and the gender segregated toilets need big
amount. The school is still working and soliciting donation to make these be realized.

NARRATIVE REPORT ON BASIC FIRST AID TRAINING

First Aid is extremely important at the workplace. Sudden injuries or illnesses, some of
which could be life-threatening, occur at work or at School. It may be something that is
often overlooked in the workplace because of its simplicity. First Aid can be as simple
as treating a small scrape so that it does not become infected to keep a person alive by
performing CPR. OSHA describes the definition of first aid as medical care that is
usually given immediately after the injury has occurred. This attention is given to the
location where the injury occurred. It often consists of one-off, short term treatment
and requires little technology or training to be administered.

In line with the topic pertaining to the Disaster Risk Preparedness, Management
and Response of the Philippines, Kibawe National High School is one of the
lucky participant who granted two individual to attend the Seminar on Basic
First Aid and Basic Life Support organized by DRRM which will facilitate the
desired change towards the improvement and distribution of knowledge and
information. The seminar which took place at Kibawe West District Elementary School,
Training Building on April 21, 22,23 2021. This was part of the efforts to educate the
people, especially the teachers, about the risks that a disaster imposes and how they
can, if not prevent, minimize its effect to the community or at School.

The seminar aims to help the participant acquire the information that they would
need in times of disasters and crisis especially when they happen to exist in
school setting. This would also help them improve their skills when it comes
to performing first-aid. This seminar can be a tool to at least help educate
people about the importance of knowing how to act and react when disaster and
emergencies happen and how these actions can impact the conformity of the society.
