DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 9

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
 Classify the elements, periods, and group in the periodic table
 Participate and perform the activities
 Strengthen their appreciation of the significance of elements in our daily lives
II. LEARNING MATERIALS/REFERENCES
MATERIALS:
PowerPoint presentation, Laptop/ Mobile phone, pictures and video presentation

REFERENCES:
Science Learners Material 10.

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Response
A. Pre-lesson

Everybody stands up. Jasmine please lead the

prayer.
Let’s bow our head and feel the presence
of the Lord. In the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit…………. Amen!

Good morning, class.

Good morning, Ma’am.

Class before we start for our session, I want you to

look at your chairs and your surroundings. If you see
pieces of trashes please pick it up and throw it on the
trash bin properly
Yes, ma’am
Are you done?
Thank you, Ma’am.
You may now take your seats class.

None, ma’am
Is there anyone absents today?

If none, let us start

At the end of the lesson, the students
Before proceeding to our discussion, anyone from should be able to:
the class who wants to read our objectives for
today? Yes, Shiela?  Classify the elements, periods, and
group in the periodic table
 Participate and perform the
activities
 Strengthen their appreciation of
the significance of elements in our
daily lives

Thank you, Shiela. We need to discuss everything

that is shown in our Learning Objectives for an
hour. So, bear with me class. And I'm hoping for
everyone's cooperation.

 B. Motivation
Yes, ma’am

Before we proceed to our topic do you want to play a

game?

Before we start let us classify these things that i

have. I have here a dice, The student who handed (playing a music)
the dice when the music stopped will answer the
question. Okay let’s start

Ma’am this is a Helium

In your own words how do you classify this
balloons?
Okay, how about this one? Can you classify this
Posporo reyven?

Ma’am that is a phosphorus

Yes, that’s right Reyven!

And how about this Banana? Yes, lenard

Potassium ma’am

Yes, that’s right, How about this watch. Can you

classify this Jasmine

Ma’am, Gold

Yes, that’s right again! And lastly can you

classify this coins?

That a nickel ma’am

Yes very good! Congratulations class. And thank

you for your active participation. Now I think one
of you have any idea on what our topic today
Miss shiela what do you think our topic today? Ma’am, I think our topic for today is all
about the elements

This is all about the periodic table and elements.

Now, lets watch and listen carefully to the video I

present.

https://youtu.be/VgVQKCcfwnU?
si=P7shOCwiBoHIzetH

 C. Discussion

I will you show you some pictures and then guess

it if this is a Metal, Non-Metal, or metalloid

Ma’am Metals

What is the elements of the green colored?

Very good, how about this one?

What is the element have you seen in purple? Ma’am, metalloids

What is the elements have you seen in orange? Non-metals ma’am

But before we proceed to our next activity, I want I had noticed that the images are about the
to ask one of you, alexa. what have you noticed periodic table of elements.
on the images?

- Excellent answer, alexa.

- This is all about the periodic table and

elements.

When we say The Periodic Table of Elements, The elements in the periodic table are
what comes on your mind first? arranged tabular according to their atomic
numbers, starting with hydrogen, the
Yes, Reyven element with the lowest atomic number,
and ending with oganesson, the element
Very good, Reyven with the highest atomic number.

THE PERIODIC TABLE

 The horizontal rows of the periodic table are

called PERIODS.
 The vertical columns are called families or
groups
 Elements in the same family have similar
physical and chemical properties

- So the periodic table is organized into groups

and periods

- Any horizontal row that goes across the periodic

table like this, that’s a period

- Each column in the periodic table is called a

group, now the groups are very important because
the elements in a group have similar chemical
properties, so in this case this whole column here,
and this whole group all of those elements. The
periodic table can also be broken down into three
main groups so what it is? This are the metals,
non-metals and the metalloids
METALS:

 Metals are on the left and in the center of the

periodic table
 Metals have the following physical (The students will listen very
properties: well).
 Conduct heat and electricity
 Ductile and malleable
 Shiny
 Solid at room temperature (except Mercury)

- So for the first group, Metals have specific

properties metals are shiny or lustrous, they are
malleable which means they can be hammered
out into sheets, they are ductile which means they
can be drown out into wires and they are great
conductors of both electricity and heat, they are
generally solids at room temperature except of
mercury which is hg number 80. So that’s what
metals are

NON-METALS

 NON-METALS ARE ON THE RIGHT

SIDE OF THE PERIODIC TABLE
 NON-METALS HAVE THE FOLLOWING
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:
 POOR CONDUCTORS OF HEAT AND
ELECTRICITY
 USUALLY SOLID OR GAS AT ROOM
TEMPERATURE (ONLY BROMINE IS A
LIQUID AT ROOM TEMPERATURE).

- Non-Metals it’s a fairly small group compared

to the metals and the Non-Metals are not shiny,
they are brittle so they are very easily to break,
they are very poor conductor of electricity. And
most non-metals are gases some are solids and
one is a liquid at room temperature so they are
kind of all over the place, they are not mostly
solid like the metals are

METALLOIDS

 METALS ARE SEPARATED FROM NON-

METALS BY A STAIRCASE OF
ELEMENTS CALLED METALLOIDS
 Metalloids are elements with properties
intermediate between metals and non-metals

- And the the last group we have here is a

metalloids amd the metalloids are characteristic
or have characteristics of both Metal and Non
metal. So, they are kind of similar to metals, kind
of similar to non-metals. Metalloid can conduct
electricity but not very well

CHEMICAL FAMILIES
- GROUPS OF ELEMENTS THAT HAVE
SIMILAR PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL
PROPERTIES

When we say chemical families this is a group of

elements that have certain similar properties and
can form compounds with some similar properties

NOBLE GASES

Elements will react so that they have the same

number of electrons as an atom of the closest
noble gas.

Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton and Xenon

These are the gases found on the right of the
periodic table, these gases are all unreactive they
do not interact with any of the other elements or
themselves. They are very basically loners.

So that’s all for today. Any question or

clarification?
None ma’am
If none, Get ready for our activity

 D. APPLICATION

We have another game. Group yourselves into 4

groups. The group that finishes first will gets a
prize.

ACTIVITY TITLE: BINGO OF ELEMENTS

The student’s will do the activity
 E. GENERALIZATION

After our activity I will ask you a question

Ma’am, Elements are important to
Lenard, In your own words what is the our daily life because the so-
importance of elements in your daily life? called bulk is in our bodies.
These are carbon, hydrogen,
How about you Danilo? oxygen, and nitrogen. The reason
why our body functions well are
Yes very good! The elements are important to our because of the result of chemical
daily lives because In reactions
comparison, compounds are
essential since we use them in our
daily living like food and water.

 F. EVALUATION
So for our first quiz, get 1 whole sheet
of paper
The students will do quietly the

d. Henry Sy

 G. ASSIGNMENT

So for our topic for today is somewhat related to

the topic we have discussed.

So now for our assignment

How do you explain the periodic table of

elements

So that’s all for today, let’s all stand for closing

prayer

The name of the father, the son, and to the holy

spirit. Dear god thank you for all the things that
we have learned today. (AMEN)

Any question or clarification?

Goodbye class. See you next meeting!

AMEN
None ma’am
