LAB 1:INTODUCTION TO ELECTRONIC

CIRCUIT SIMULATION AND
SOFTWARE
PACKAGES
RESULT

PART 1

1. Discuss the concept and fundamentals of items below:

i. Significance of electronic simulation.

 Simulation helps you to test your designs or circuits before you build them. It is used to verify
the operation of the circuir you designed. Once you have completed a design by hand
calculation, you would use simulation software to stimulate the circuit to see if your hand
calculation match simulation results. If your simulations do not match your calculations, then
either your calculations or youtr simulations are in error. It is almost guranteed that your
circuit will not work in that lab.

 A simulation is not used to figure out how a circuit works. It is important to know the theory
of your design before you simulate.
 In the verification process, results generated by the simulation package will give information
about the designed circuit. The outputs could be in the form of :

o Circuit outputs : voltage distribution, current flow, waveforms, frequency response curve,
switching speed in digital circuits.
o Circuit operation sensitivity towards change in other component values. *Change in circuit
characteristics due to temperature change.
o Circuit elements parameters could be modify for optimum operation.

ii. State the simulation packages available in the market.

 Made possible by using any electronic simulation package which is available in market. The
software difference in simulation efficiency and cost of the software.
 Type of tools to use in simulation is Proteus VSM, Pspice,Circuit Maker, Protel , NI
Multisim, Livewire, FCB Wizard 3, OrCAB, Tina and Eagle.

iii. Process flow of design and simulation project.

iv. Three method of simulation: circuit level, logic level and system level.
 Circuit level = Analog circuit is simulated and results in example voltage drop, current flow,
noise, impedance in the circuit are obtained.
 Logic level = A digital circuit is simulated and the logic level of the inputs and outputs are
obtained.
 System level = Determined the characteristic of a system in example the design of a
telecommunication network, such as losses due to the cabling and the quality of transmitted
and signal between two distant locations can be determined.

v. Two types of simulation circuit: analogue and digital.

Analogue Circuit :- circuit that consists of passive and active analogue components.
Digital Circuit :- circuit that consists of digital components such as logic gates

vi. Advantages and disadvantages of simulation process.

ADVANTAGE

 Faster to built the circuit in the simulator than in real life.

 If it does not work at first, no harm. Can adjust it and improve.
 You can access any node in the circuit with a click of the mouse, which makes debugging
much faster.
 You can try components that you do not physically have.
 Able to detect circuit problems before testing in the laboratory.
 Enhances the design and redesign of electronic circuit. This is because circuit fabrication is
not required and parts/components are easily changed. The performance of a circuit can be
determined before the actual construction of the circuit. The circuit can be altered and
redesigned repeatedly until it yields satisfactory outputs to the circuit designer.
 Reduces the cost and time spent in project design

DISADVANTAGE

 If it works, you still have to build the real circuit.

 It does not simulate the components with complete accuracy. There is always some
differences between the simulation and the reality

DISCUSSION

From this practical work , I have learned about alectronic circuit simulation and software
packages. From this practical work I have know about what is the circuit simulation. It is a
process of imitating the behaviour of electronic components to put together in a circuit. Besides
that, I learned to Proteus 8 Professional application to draw the circuit. I also remeber the
components function from this lab work.

CONCLUSION

In coclusion, from this practical work 1 I have remebered the concept of electronic circuit
simulation and the applications of electronic simulation packages and i also generate the
schematics circuit using electronic simulation package.
