PERSONAL STATEMENT

BENJAMIN KWASI FRIMPONG

MSC INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT

Pursuing a master degree is a responsibility I owe to myself as well as a commitment I have to others. I refer
to it as a responsibility because I have a proactive outlook on life, which makes me actively seek and go
after the things that I want to accomplish in life. I refer to it as a commitment because I want to be an
example to others of the attainments and contribution to society that women can make.

It was when I earned my first cedis at the age of ten washing my mother's car that I became interested in the
power of money. Over time it became clear to me that the people who understand the monetary and banking
system are capable of understanding the decisions made by governments and the future of society. I want to
be one of those people.

To broaden my knowledge of different areas of accounting and finance, I have read a number of different
books on the subject - from "How the City of London Works" to "Rich Dad Poor Dad". I am also a regular
reader of the Economist magazine.

I believe that reading such books and magazines has given me insight into topics not covered at school, for
example how Japanese management in Chinese factories caused unrest among the workforce due to the
Chinese workers' dislike of the Japanese management style, and how this affected the share price of
companies such as Honda. Reading about such things has made me realise how the subject of Management
affects everybody's lives, and has strengthened my desire to further study the subject.

The undergraduate subjects I am studied gave me a firm foundation for studying Accounting at University.
Modules such as Principles of Management, Introduction to Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Cost
Accounting, Finance Reporting at undergraduate level have greatly improved my analytical and writing
skills. I have particularly enjoyed the part of the course which concerns how a firm selects financial
strategies and how managers choose which aspect of a firm needs the most investment.

My fascination with management began during my undergraduate studies in Business Administration in

Accounting where I developed a strong appreciation for the intricacies of effective leadership and strategic
decision-making. Throughout my academic journey, I consistently demonstrated a commitment to
excellence, earning recognition for my academic achievements and my ability to work collaboratively within
diverse teams.

Complementing my academic background, I have gained practical experience through internships and full-
time roles in various organizations. These experiences have not only broadened my understanding of
management but also honed my problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. I have had the
privilege of working in dynamic environments that demanded adaptability, creativity, and the ability to lead
and motivate teams to achieve common goals.

My communication skills and self-confidence has also made me more appreciative and open to other
cultures. Alongside the logical method of thinking that I have developed from Mathematics at undergraduate
level, I believe that I am well prepared to take on a master course in MSc International Management at your
University.

My current job as a tutor at a Ghana Education Service has given me some insight into the demands of
working life. Having worked there since August, 2023, I now feel I am an able employee and because of the
nature of the job. I have learned how to communicate with colleagues, my employer and of course. I often
have to work alone so I have learned to use my own initiative and how to be independent - skills which are
of paramount importance if I want to work in the financial industry.

The Loughborough University's MSc in International Management program has captured my attention due
to its reputation for academic excellence, its diverse and inclusive community, and its strong focus on the
practical application of management concepts. I am particularly drawn to the opportunity to learn from
esteemed faculty members and engage with a cohort of students from various cultural backgrounds, which I
believe will provide a holistic perspective on global management practices.

In the long term, I aspire to assume leadership roles in organizations, contributing to their growth and
success. I firmly believe that the MSc in International Management program at the Loughborough
University will equip me with the knowledge, skills, and practical insights needed to excel in this endeavor.
The emphasis on experiential learning, case studies, and real-world projects is precisely the kind of hands-on
education I seek to transform my aspirations into reality.

Outside of my academic and career ambitions, I have a strong commitment to community involvement and
volunteering. I have been actively engaged in teaching through which I've learned the importance of social
responsibility and giving back to the community.

In conclusion, I am enthusiastic about the prospect of joining the Loughborough University's MSc in
International Management program. I am confident that this program will not only nurture my intellectual
growth but also provide a supportive and inclusive environment for personal development. I look forward to
contributing to the academic community and making the most of the opportunities that this esteemed
institution offers.
