INTRODUCTION
The uniquely designed Nite-guide appliances can straighten teeth
in over 90% of 5 to 7 year old patients just while they sleep.

A good example is Heather. At 5 years of age she was a good

candidate for the Nite-Guide Interceptive treatment because she
has at least 3 orthodontic problems.
3

INTRODUCTION continued
Her lower erupting adult centrals are already overlapped and will
probably become even more crowded when the wider adult lat-
erals begin to erupt.

She has a 6 mm. overbite in her deciduous dentition which

according to research has a great possibility of deepening to
8 mm. in her adult dentition and a third problem which is a 6 mm.
deciduous overjet.
4

INTRODUCTION continued
This 6 mm. overjet will carry over into her adult dentition.

Here she is at 9 years of age. Her overlapped lower incisors were

guided into ideally pre-positioned sockets and have straightened.
5

INTRODUCTION continued

Such teeth exert pressure against adjacent teeth which in turn

forced the upper and lower jaws to expand by 4 mm.
6

INTRODUCTION continued
Heather’s overjet has also been eliminated due to the function of the
Nite-Guide appliance which encourages lower jaw advancement.
7

INTRODUCTION continued
The Nite-Guide appliance design restricts the adult anteriors
from over erupting and keeps them level with the posterior teeth,
thereby preventing the development of a deep adult overbite.

At 16, the stability of the Nite-Guide results can be seen in

Heather’s case.
8

INTRODUCTION continued
She still has an ideal Class I occlusion, with a perfect overbite and
overjet, and no crowding in the lower.

She has been out of retention for 3 years.

Since the periodontal fibers are disjoined during the adult incisal
eruption stage, orthodontic corrections are obtained by only pas-
sive wear of the Nite-Guide, which easily guides the incoming teeth.

Incoming Teeth

Once the adult incisors have fully erupted these periodontal fibers
join to lock in an ideal occlusion rather than a malocclusion, which
in many cases can result in extraction’s with full fixed appliances
and high percentage of relapse.

The Nite-Guide procedure allows these periodontal fibers to act

like a built in retainer for life.

INDICATIONS AND INSURANCE

Typical candidates for the Nite-Guide Interceptive Treatment are
children about 5 to 7 years of age with 1 1/2 mm. or more of
overbite, 3 mm. or more of overjet, potential crowding, and
anterior open-bites.

1 1/2 mm. + Overbite 3 mm. + Overjet*

* Corrects most overjets over 4 mm.

INDICATIONS AND INSURANCE continued

Potential Crowding

Anterior Open-Bite*

* Where thumb-sucking habits have been corrected

and where no anterior tongue-thrust exists.
14

INDICATIONS AND INSURANCE continued

Treatment is ideally started when the lower adult central incisors
first break tissue. Typical records consist of a panoramic x-ray film,
study casts and a lateral cephalometric radiograph taken in office
or by an x-ray lab.

The temporomandibular joints should be checked for any clicking

crepitus or displacements of the mandible and noted on the
patient’s record.

Dental insurance with orthodontic coverage is applicable by using
categories 8010 for fee approval.
