Date and Time February 13, 2023 (7:30-8:30 AM) Quarter 2nd
MELC Explain the properties of solids, liquids, and gases based on the particle nature of matter. (S8MT-IIIa-b-8)

I. Objectives
 Define matter;
 Identify the three states of matter; and
 Classify matter into different states.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: The Particle Nature of Matter
B. References: Science 8, SLM 1- The Particle Nature of Matter, pp.,1-13
: Video Clip: https://goo.gl/Pv6jFN
C. Materials: Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation, Pictures
D. Time Allotment: 60 minutes

III. Procedure
A. Daily Routine (3 minutes)
 Prayer
- Class, please stand. Let us pray. (Interfaith Prayer)
 Greetings
- Good morning everyone! Please be seated.
 Checking of Attendance
- Is anyone absent today?
B. Motivation (15 minutes)

 The students will be group into 4.

 Let the students watch/observe the video presentation.
 The different groups will answer the guide questions using their manila paper and they will post it after 5 minutes.

Questions:
 Based on the video presentation how will you distinguish if it is matter or non-matter?
 Give some examples of matter and non-matter.
 In your own words, what is matter?

C. Presentation of the Lesson

Our lesson for today is about the particle Nature of Matter. At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:
 Define matter;
 Identify the three states of matter; and
 Classify matter into different states.
D. Development of the Lesson (25 minutes)

Particle Models of the Three States of Matter

Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. Mass

is the fundamental property of matter. It remains constant for
any proportion of matter that remains the same. The relationship
between the amount of mass and the amount of space is the
important property of matter. We usually state this property as
the ratio of mass and volume called density.

Basically, matter exists in three states – solid, liquid, and

gas. Solids, liquids, and gases can be distinguished from each
other on a macroscopic level based on their shape and volume.
Unlike the other two states, solids have both constant shape and
volume. Liquids have constant volume as well, but they have
indefinite shape. Gases possess neither constant volume nor
constant shape, but they take the size and shape of whatever
they are put into.

E. Generalization (2 minutes)
 What is matter?
 Give examples of matter.
 What are the three states of matter?
F. Valuing/Application (5 minutes)
Directions: Illustrate what the particles look like in each state of matter

Solid Liquid Gas

Illustrate what the

particles look like in
each state of matter

IV. Evaluation (10 minutes)

Directions: Think about the three states of matter. From the WORD POOL, classify the examples given based on the description to
the different states of matter. And at the bottom, illustrate the particles on each state of matter.

Description Solid Liquid Gas

Has its own shape, takes up a
definite amount of space

Takes the shape of its

container
Spreads out to fill its
container
V. Assignment (5 points)

 Using 8 words, create a sentence from what you have learned from the topic.
