    SCHOOL GOVERNANCE COUNCIL ORIENTATION

    OVERVIEW:
    Anchored through the The Governance of Basic Education Act of 2O0l (RA 9155)
    which emphasizes that every unit in the education bureaucracy is responsible and
    accountable for continuous improvement of learning outcomes. Through the principle of
    shared governance, participatory decision-making driven by active engagement of
    school stakeholders is strengthened. As mentioned in DepEd Order No. 26. S. 2022
    that provides the implementing guidelines on the establishment of SGC as well as the
    structure, composition, membership, roles, and responsibilities of SGC members,
    among others.

    Through the initiative of the Gulang-Gulang National High School-Domoit


    Extension, the school head, Mrs. Pelagia R. Regio, followed the guidelines mentioned in
    DepEd Order No. 26. S. 2022, the orientation of the program was conducted in the
    Gulang-Gulang National High School-Domoit Extension training room on January 16,
    2024, at 1:00 PM. This activity was attended by the school head, teachers, SPTA
    officers, and stakeholders to discuss the School Governance Council policy and
    procedures.

    OBJECTIVE/S:
    The project aims to:
    1. Orient teachers, parents, and other stakeholders about the School
    Governance Council and its policies.
    2. Introduce the composition of the School Governance Council.
    3. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of each of the council positions.

    4. Set a date for the School Governance Election.

    ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED:
    The program started with the playing of a nationalistic song, followed by a
    prayer. It is followed by the opening remarks by the school head, Mrs. Pelagia R.
    Regio, wherein she acknowledges the attendance of parents from different sections,
    SPTA officers, and other stakeholders. She also emphasized the importance of the
    said meeting and the establishment of the council. Afterwards, Ms. April Diane M.
    Romero and Mrs. Pelagia R. Regio introduced the concept, composition, and rules of
    SGC. The roles and responsibilities of each position were also discussed. A question-
    and-answer session was also conducted to clarify queries about the presented topic.

    Using the guidelines mentioned in DepEd Order No. 26. S. In 2022, for
    schools with no existing SGC, the school head identified the four ex-officio members,
    who are representatives from the student government, PTA, and faculty club. The ex
    officio members identified are the following:

    Designated co-chairperson: Ms. April Diane M. Romero

    Loida O. Leonardia - SPTA President Faculty Club

    Mike F. Ebio - Faculty President

    Jillian Ducay - SSLG President

    After this, the attendees of the meeting were identified as the council
    members, which completed the composition of the SGC. The following are the
    identified council members:

    Loida O. Leonardia - SPTA President

    For identification purposes, as mentioned in DepEd Order No. 26, S. 2022 the
    SGC was named Gulang-Gulang National High School-Domoit Extension School
    Governance Council. Since there is already a time constraint and parent and
    stakeholder availability is an issue, the following hour was decided as the election
    date.

    CURRENT STATUS:
    The SGC orientation was a highly successful event because all of the
    objectives mentioned above were met.

    ACCOMPLISHMENTS/ISSUES/ CONCERNS:
    The following are the project's accomplishments:
    1. Orientation of SGC policies, rules, and composition.
    2. Identification of four ex-officio members and voting council members.
    3. Setting a date for the SGC election.
