Mike vs. The Bear’(s)
By Frank and Lin Vargo
Mike is an ubiquitous sort of person. He is just about
everywhere. Not only is he the President of the Valley Rifle and
Pistol Club, he is quite a marksman and enjoys a “shoot” when
he can make it and he usually does. And be forewarned, he is an
excellent marksman and wins quite frequently!
Well, I saw Mike at the Glasgow Shooting range a good
while ago and he always has time to talk to me, and believe me,
he is a joy to listen to. He was a bit excited because he was about
to embark on an adventure that I as well as many others envy,
a trip to Alaska, but not only just a trip but a hunting trip of a
lifetime for me, but Mike was doing a back to backer going up to
Nome, Alaska hunting for BEAR!
Not just only a bear, but a Grizzly.
As famed author, (I have a few of his books), Robert Ruark,
has entitled on one of them, “ Use Enough Gun, Ruark On
Hunting Big Game”.
Well, Mike said, (unless I got it wrong), he was gonna use
a 404 Jeffery, which should stop anything that needed to be
stopped. It is a stout rifle caliber that might wreak havoc on both
ends of the spectrum, shooter and game.
Make a

went last year as well, but came up short on “Griz” or as the Latin
