PART ONE: Hatching and Growing your Triops: DAY 1: 1. Rinse your hatching tray with spring or bottled drinking water. DO NOT use soap! It is harmful to your Triops. 2. Peel off the back of the thermostrip and stick it to the outside of the hatching tray. 3. Fill the hatching tray with 100 ml (3.5 fl oz.) or 6 tablespoons of spring or bottled drinking water. 4. With adult supervision, set the hatching tray directly under a desk lamp. Put the lamp close enough to warm the water in the hatching tray. Wait until the water temperature is between 72 and 84F (22C-29C) before continuing to the next step. 5. Using the small spoon that came with your hatchery, add four heaping spoonfuls of hatching nutrient to the water. Leave in the water at least two hours before adding Triops eggs (see Step 6). Monitoring the Temperature and Light For happy, healthy Triops, the water temperature must remain between 72F and 84F (22C-29C). You can use the lamp as well as sunshine to warm the water. If the temperature drops below 72F (22C), your eggs will not hatch and your Triops may die. Make sure your Triops receive at least 12 hours of light every day during summer months and 24 hours during winter months. 6. WARNING: Triops eggs are VERY small! Do not open egg dish near drafts or the eggs might blow away. Do not add all the eggs at once! Why not? Because if you save them you can hatch your Triops three to five times! First, tap the side of the egg dish so the eggs fall to the bottom. Then open the egg dish carefully over a piece of white paper so that none of the eggs are lost. Next, gently tap 10-15 eggs onto the white piece of paper. Then pour them into the small round hatching tray. Once the eggs are added to the water, DO NOT shake or move the hatching tray around! If any eggs stick to the side of the hatching tray, use your pipette to add a small amount of water so that the eggs are not stuck to the side of the tray. Make sure the water temperature is between 72F and 84F (22C-29C). Your Triops eggs will hatch in 18-48 hours. 7. Once the eggs are hatched, it is time to prepare a larger tank. On day 8, your Triops will be ready to move out of the hatching tray. You must rinse the tank with spring or bottled drinking water. NEVER USE SOAP to clean your tank because soap is toxic to your Triops. Using the same brand of spring or bottled water that you used to hatch your Triops, fill the larger tank. Using the small spoon in your kit, add one heaping spoonful of hatching nutrient to the tank water and place the tank next to the hatching tray under the light. That way, the water temperature in both the hatching tray and the tank will be the same when your Triops are ready to move.

DAY 2: Can you see how many Triops have hatched? Remember: Because they are very tiny the first three days after hatching, be sure to look closely! DAY 3: Today is Feeding Day! 1. Take a sheet of white paper and fold it in half. Place one green and one brown pellet inside the fold. 2. Crush the pellets into a very fine powder using a spoon. 3. Tap the paper until all of the crushed food is along the fold. Gently tipping the paper, pour one-fourth of the crushed food into the hatching tray and throw away the rest. DO NOT feed more than one-fourth of the crushed food as this will harm your Triops! Watch your hungry baby Triops eat! Maintain the Water Level DAILY. Using a pipette, add spring or bottled drinking water to bring the water back to the original level. DAY 4: Do NOT feed today! Can you see how many Triops you have? Is their water temperature staying above 72 F. DAY 5: Make a fresh batch of finely crushed food and feed your Triops one-fourth of the total. DAY 6 & DAY 7: 1. Starting on Day 6, use the pipette to remove all waste and excess food from the bottom of the hatching tray. Be sure to flush this waste down the toilet and always wash your hands afterwards. Follow this procedure every day from now on to keep the tank water clear and clean. Add more water to maintain the water level. 2. If you see that your Triops have eaten all of the food from the previous day, crush one green and one brown pellet and feed half to your Triops. You may feed them twice a day if you see they are eating all of their food, but DO NOT overfeed because this will foul the water.

PART TWO: Time to Move Triops to a Larger Tank! DAY 8: 1. Using the pipette in your hatchery, remove all waste and excess food from the bottom of the hatching tray, flushing the waste down the toilet! Continue to do this daily until about DAY 16 when the tank water will be changed weekly. 2. Peel the thermostrip from the hatching tray and place it on the outside of the larger tank. If the water temperatures are the same, slowly pour the baby Triops and the water from the hatching tray into the tank. Pour as little of the dirty water into the tank as possible. You can also use a disposable spoon to transfer your Triops to their new larger habitat. 3. Crush one green and one brown pellet and feed half the total amount.

SUGGESTIONS: To grow larger Triops, with adult supervision, begin feeding your Triops very tiny bits of peeled carrots and tiny bits of fish or shrimp 2-3 times weekly. As Triops grow larger, you can move them to an even larger aquarium and they will grow even bigger! DAY 9 AND BEYOND: Feed one pellet per Triops in the morning and one in the evening, alternating green and brown pellets. If they eat all of their food in one day you can feed them more. Also, feed Triops more as they grow! Do not overfeed because this will foul your water. KEEPING YOUR TANK CLEAN: Change the tank water weekly beginning around DAY 16 and as necessary to keep the water clear and clean. Prepare for the change by first placing a gallon of open spring or bottled drinking water under a lamp until the temperature of the bottled water is the same as the tank water. Then follow these simple directions: IMPORTANT: Never stir up the bottom of your tank because this releases bacteria that can be harmful or lethal to your Triops. Method One: 1. Carefully pour half of the tank water into the toilet. Pour slowly to avoid dumping your Triops. 2. Refill with similar water at the same temperature. Repeat again in 5 minutes if the water remains dirty. You can do several changes a day until clean. Method Two: 1. Scoop or pour out your Triops into a disposable temporary holding tank or use your hatching tray. 2. Carefully pour all of the tank water into the toilet and flush. 3. Fill your larger tank with spring or bottled drinking water. When the water temperatures are the same, pour your Triops back into larger tank. Rinse the hatching tray with spring or bottled drinking water to re-use when hatching more Triops. HELPFUL HINTS! If your Triops fail to hatch, change the brand of water and try again. DO NOT use cleaning or insecticide chemicals in the vicinity of your Triops. DO NOT put your Triops in a tank with other fish! FRESH START! When your Triops complete their life cycle, empty all of the tank water into the toilet and flush. Thoroughly rinse the tank with spring or bottled drinking water and wipe any algae or dirt from the sides of the tank with a paper towel. Throw away the paper towel immediately, as it may contain Triops waste. Wash your hands! You have enough food, eggs, and nutrient to hatch Triops five times. Just use your directions and start over from Day 1!
