    VISION
    The purpose of the cruise control system is to maintain a constant vehicle speed
    despite external disturbances, such as changes in wind or road grade. This is
    accomplished by measuring the vehicle speed, comparing it to the desired or
    reference speed, and automatically adjusting the throttle according to a control
    law.
    COMPANY PAST EXPERIENCE
    The Diamond Princess is a cruise ship registered in the United Kingdom and operated
    by Princess Cruises. Commencing its operations in March 2004, it primarily sails in Asia
    during the northern hemisphere summer and Australia during the southern hemisphere
    summer. This vessel belongs to the Grand-class category, specifically the Gem-class,
    and is recognized for its 37.5-meter (123 ft 0 in) beam, making it the widest among
    Grand-class ships. The Diamond Princess and its sister ship, the Sapphire Princess,
    were constructed in Nagasaki, Japan, by Mitsubishi Industries.
    Notably, the ship has experienced two significant outbreaks of infectious diseases. In
    2016, there was an outbreak of norovirus-induced gastroenteritis, and in 2020, an
    outbreak of COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 occurred. During the latter incident, the
    ship underwent a nearly month-long quarantine with passengers on board. Subsequent
    to disembarkation, passengers and crew faced additional quarantine measures. Of the
    3,711 passengers and crew, at least 712 were infected, and by mid-April 2020, nine
    fatalities had been reported.
