ROZUMIENIE TEKSTÓW PISANYCH

3 Przeczytaj tekst. Dobierz właściwe pytanie (A–F) do każdego fragmentu tekstu. Wpisz odpowiednią
literę w miejsca (3.1.– 3.4.). Uwaga: jedno pytanie zostało podane dodatkowo i nie pasuje do żadnego
fragmentu tekstu.

A How do you feel among people without disabilities?

B Who is the most important person in your life?
C Do you feel you have lost something because you are blind?
D What activities for the people with disabilities do you take part in?
E Do you find life difficult because you are visually impaired?

Many people have asked me what it’s like to be visually impaired, by which they mean what life is like for
a person who cannot see. I lost my eyesight five years ago, so I can compare my situation now to the one
before. Here I am trying to answer the questions I’ve been most frequently asked. Obviously, it’s only my
personal perspective.

3.1. ............... It all depends on the day. On a good day, I forget I’m blind. I can still hear, feel and taste the
world around me. I can also do many things that a sighted person can, but I do them slightly
differently. On a bad day, however, I struggle with a coffee machine and I can hardly wash
myself. Sometimes I get totally depressed.

3.2. ............... My daughters are actually the only thing that keeps me going. My mum helps me – it would be
very difficult for me to take care of them as they are still very little. It’s because of them that I try
to be a better person and set a good example for them. And it’s not about help – this I get from
the social institutions. It’s about love.

3.3. ............... Being blind doesn’t define who I am as a person. But sometimes I feel really bad. The reason is
always the same: not seeing my daughters as they grow up. It’s so difficult to accept that I won’t
see them graduate from secondary school or get married...

3.4. ............... I often feel like a freak. I can only imagine how people look at me. People usually forget that
being blind does not mean you are also deaf – so I can sometimes hear what I wouldn’t like to
hear. I often feel I would prefer to be on a wheelchair because I could for example go dancing or
play basketball. There are few activities or programs for the blind.

famous musicians as well as concerts on DVD. Then we might also listen to the records and read
biographies. Tomorrow we begin with several DVDs of Nirvana. There will also be a competition for
the best name for our club. Mr Wood promised an interesting prize for the best name and kindly
agreed to come to hand in the prize himself.

brakujące zdania (A–E), tak aby otrzymać spójny i logiczny tekst. Uwaga: jedno zdanie zostało podane

The day started badly – and then it only got worse and worse! First of all, my alarm clock didn’t go off.
5.1. ........... I jumped out of bed and threw a few things into my suitcase. When I got to the airport,
I realised I’d left my passport at home! I showed my driving license to the people on the desk, but
they only looked at me and I heard what I feared I would hear – either I produced my passport
or I wasn’t getting on the plane. 5.2. ........... There wasn’t much time left, so I phoned up my sister and
asked her to come to the airport with my passport. She wasn’t very pleased, especially as we’d had
an argument the day before. However, in the end she agreed. I was waiting for Laura – getting more
nervous with every minute. When she finally got to the airport, they were about to close check-in, so
I pushed to the front of the queue and showed them my passport. 5.3. ........... And then she said, ‘I’m
sorry sir, but your passport expired two weeks ago. We can’t let you on the flight.’

A When it became clear that I wouldn’t get on the flight, I arranged to get on the next one at no extra cost.
B From the expression on the woman’s face, I saw at once that something was wrong.
C The plane, unfortunately, had already taken off.
D It was already 10 o’clock and the plane was leaving in two hours!
