Catch Up Friday
February 16,2024

On the 3rd Catch-Up Friday in February, Grade VI-Bougainvillea embarked on

another enlightening session under the guidance of Sir Randy, delving into the crucial
distinction between sexual orientation and gender identity. The aim was to foster
understanding and respect for both concepts among the students.
Following Sir Randy's lead, the class kicked off with engaging stories carefully
selected to elucidate the disparities between sexual orientation and gender identity.
These narratives were chosen to resonate with the students, facilitating comprehension
of the nuanced topics at hand.
To ensure comprehensive understanding, the class divided into five smaller
groups, each tasked with unscrambling jumbled letters that corresponded to key terms
and ideas from the stories. Through collaborative discussion and critical thinking,
students pieced together the significance of sexual orientation and gender identity in
shaping individual identity and societal perceptions.
After the group discussions, the entire class reconvened to synthesize their
findings and insights. Sir Randy adeptly facilitated the dialogue, elucidating complex
concepts in an accessible manner, and encouraging students to reflect on the
implications of gender equality in their own lives.

Throughout the session, students examined narratives illustrating the challenges

and prejudices faced by individuals based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
These stories served as poignant reminders of the importance of fostering inclusivity
and combating discrimination in all its forms.
In the spirit of Catch-Up Friday, students engaged in reflective discourse, sharing
personal anecdotes and insights gleaned from the session. This exchange of
perspectives underscored the significance of empathy and understanding in promoting
a more equitable and compassionate society.

As a culminating activity, Grade VI-Bougainvillea embarked on a writing exercise,

articulating their thoughts on the importance of respecting differences in sexual
orientation and gender identity. This provided Sir Randy with valuable feedback on the
students' comprehension and engagement with the topic.
