This is what I learned at the symposium held at Occidental Mindoro State College on November 17,

2022, from the first guest speaker this is what I learned , Lesson planning is important because it helps
teachers to make sure that the everyday activities that go on in their classrooms are providing learners
with a good level of lasting progress toward what they want to achieve outlined in their sequence, as
well as their individual education plans. Without lesson planning, it is easy to get off track with one’s
class and miss out on educational targets. An effective lesson plan includes several elements: learning
objectives, quality questions, supplies and activities. It is important to have the learning objectives in
mind because those should drive the development of all activities in the classroom. Quality questions
are inquiries that the teacher plans to direct at the students over the course. It helps the teacher to be
more organized and it gives a sense of direction in relation to the syllabus. It also helps the teacher to be
more confident when delivering the lesson. It provides a useful basis for future planning, It helps the
teacher to plan lessons which cater for different students. It is again a proof that the teacher has taken a
considerable amount of effort in his/her teaching. Lesson planning is at the heart of being an effective
teacher. It is a creative process that allows us to synthesize our understanding of second language
acquisition and language teaching pedagogy with our knowledge of our learners, the curriculum, and the
teaching context. It is a time when we envision the learning we want to occur and analyze how all the
pieces of the learning experience should fit together to make that vision a classroom reality. From the
Second guest speaker this is what i learned, a Table of Specifications is a blueprint for an objective
selected response assessment. The purpose is to coordinate the assessment questions with the time
spent on any particular content area, the objectives of the unit being taught, and the level of critical
thinking required by the objectives or state standards. The use of a Table of Specifications is to increase
the validity and quality of objective type assessments. The teacher should know in advance specifically
what is being assessed as well as the level of critical thinking required of the students. Tables of
Specifications are created as part of the preparation for the unit, not as an afterthought the night before
the test. Knowing what is contained in the assessment and that the content matches the standards and
benchmarks in level of critical thinking will guide learning experiences presented to students. Students
appreciate knowing what is being assessed and what level mastery is required.

Any question on an assessment should require students to do three things: first, access
information on the topic of the question. Second, use that knowledge to complete critical thinking about
the information. Third, determine the best answer to the question asked on the assessment. The
purpose of a Table of Specifications is to identify the achievement domains being measured and to
ensure that a fair and representative sample of questions appear on the test. As it is impossible, in a
test, to assess every topic from every aspect, a Table of Specifications allows us to ensure that our test
focuses on the most important areas and weights different areas based on their importance / time spent
teaching. A Table of Specifications also gives us the proof we need to make sure our test has content
validity. From the third guest speaker this is what i learned the use of instructional materials to provide
learning activities for practice and drill needs realistic guidelines for their application for classroom
setting. Students will learn more easily and remember longer if they practice individually what they
understand or have learned through prior classroom experiences. It is important for the teacher to
provide a variety of interesting drill items and situations in which students can use the skill or knowledge
in other phases of learning. Instructional materials provide the core information that students will
experience, learn, and apply during a course. They hold the power to either engage or demotivate
students.Instructional materials are used in classes because of the following advantages they provide:
They take away some of the monotony in the class & offers content that makes students sit up and take
notice. They arouse curiosity and make the child want to know and learn more.

As a student who attended the symposium, I learned a lot that I can apply to myself and not only for me
but also for students like me who attended the symposium on November 17, 2022, Thursday, many
students were helped by symposium that day.
