Welcome to the Luxury DIY Sulfate Shampoo Workshop!

Throught the course of the lessons, you will discover everything you need
to create your best performing sulfate shampoo, that will help you keep your
scalp and your stands clean, smooth and happy.

The formulation you are about learn has been developped by Dr. Deepa
Subramanian, PHD who is a specialized formulation scientist.

Dr. Deepa Subramanian is a Chemical Engineer


currently working in the area of technology
commercialization. She completed her Masters and
Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park,
and Postdoctoral Degree from Yale University.

Her research background is in innovation of new materials for novel applications,


such as beauty products and cosmetics. Deepa has previously worked for large
national and corporate institutions such as (i) for the Indian Space Research
Organization (ii) at the Procter & Gamble Company, where she worked on
products such as Olay skin care (iii) with Royal Dutch Shell, where she had
multiple technical and commercial roles.

Dr. Subramanian is also an author of more than 10


publications and 100s of citations.

Her passion lies in helping people understand the science behind various
products, so that anyone can make the best customized homemade DIY.

How to Analyse Your Products
HOW TO FIND INGREDIENTS YOU’RE INTOLERANT TO

1. Write down the product you had a negative reaction to, its ingredients
list, the pH and the type of reaction you had in the worksheet.

2. Take as many products you didn’t have a reaction to as possible and


compare their ingredients lists to the one on the worksheet. Cross out all
ingredients the products have in common.

3. If you’re already down to 1 ingredient, good job! Write it down in the field
below and avoid all products with this ingredient.

4. If the list still has a lot of ingredients, try out a new product. If you have
no reaction to the new product, repeat step 2), if you do have a reaction
to it, circle the overlapping ingredients and write them in the field below
the ingredients list. Avoid those ingredients whenever you can.

HOW TO FIND INGREDIENTS YOUR HAIR LOVES

5. Write down the product you had a positive reaction to, its ingredients list,
the pH and the type of positive reaction in the worksheet.

6. Take as many products you had a positive reaction to as possible and


compare the ingredients list to the one on the worksheet. Circle all ingre-
dients the products have in common.

7. Write the first 5 circled ingredients on the list (excluding ‘water’) in the
field below. Seek out products with these ingredients when buying new
hair care.
