Let’s Elaborate

SPORTS

It is an activity involving physical exertion and skill

in which an individual or team competes against
another or others under the set of rules. It
includes all forms of competitive physical
activity or games which, through casual or
organized participation, at least in part aim to
use, maintain or improve physical ability and
skills while providing enjoyment to participants, and in some
cases, entertainment for spectators.

Sports is categorized into three . These are individual or dual

sports, team sports, and combative Sports.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I. INDIVIDUAL OR DUAL SPORTS

It is a sport played by one or two players on one side competing with one
or two players also on the other side. While there are only a handful of sports
that are really dual in category, many individual sports are classified in the
dual category too. One example is tennis. Athletes generally compete in singles
play; however, there are also doubles play categories. This is the format used
among other racquet sports such as badminton and racquetball in both minor
and major tournaments.

Individual/Dual sports provides benefits that team sports do not. Aside

from providing development in terms of motor skills, agility, hand-eye
coordination and endurance, individual/Dual sports combine physical fitness
and mental development. Unlike with team sports, a player's success or failure
in individual sports is totally dependent on his own ability. Individual sport
athletes are completely responsible for every play and cannot rely on the help of
other teammates; this build coping skills and resilience while developing self-
esteem and confidence.
II. TEAM SPORTS

A sport wherein three or more players in a team is called a team sports.

The most popular example of a team sport is basketball. Other examples are
baseball, football, volleyball, hockey, and softball. Relays in swimming or track
and field are team efforts. The dynamic of team sports is even more different
than individual or dual sports, because of the cooperation and specialization of
roles on teams.
Being part of a team can be one of the most rewarding things a person can
do. The camaraderie, the character building, and of course, the teamwork, are
just some of the advantages you’ll experience as part of a team. In team sports,
teams have to work together to win the game, there's no single person who can
carry the rest of the team themselves. And there's nothing like watching a team
come together for a big victory.

III. COMBAT SPORTS

A combat sport, or fighting sport, is a competitive contact sport that usually

involves one-on-one combat. In many combat sports, a contestant wins by
scoring more points than the opponent or by disabling the opponent. Common
combat sports include mixed martial
arts, boxing, wrestling, judo, fencing, savate, kickboxing, Muay
Thai, Lethwei, Sanda, Tae Kwon Do, Capoeira, Brazilian Jiu-
jitsu, Sambo, Sumo and Kyokushin.

Different combat sports involve different skill sets and moves. For
example, boxing only allows punches, taekwondo largely involves kicks, and
both Muay Thai and Burmese boxing allow the use of elbows and knees. There
are also combat sports based on grappling, such as
both freestyle and Collegiate wrestling. Modern MMA is similar to the ancient
Greek Olympic sport of pankration; both allow a wide range of
both striking and grappling techniques. Some combat sports involve the use
of weapons and armor, such as fencing, kendo, and the new sport SCA Heavy
Combat; In Gatka and Modern Arnis, sticks are used.
Combat Sports and Martial Arts offer a fantastic way to get fit, engage with
friends, eat better, cope with stress and importantly, develop a character of
respect and humility that is integral to all effective martial arts. Combat Sports
teach self defense because they instill confidence and self-reliance.

10 Great Benefits of Playing

1. Better Sleep
Exercise and sport triggers chemicals in the brain that can make you feel
happier and relaxed. Team sports provide a chance to unwind and take part in
an activity that improves your fitness. If you play sports outside, you can
benefit from fresh air which is said to promote a good night’s sleep.

2. A Strong Heart
Your heart is a muscle and needs frequent exercise to help it keep fit and
healthy. A healthy heart can pump blood efficiently around your body. Your
heart will improve in performance when it is regularly challenged with exercise.
Stronger hearts can improve overall health of the body.
3. New Connections
Sport brings together a mixture of people
from different communities,
backgrounds, religions and beliefs. Sport
can offer a new way to meet others that
you may not interact with day to day. As
a result, you can make new friends. And
who knows, playing a sport might even
open new career and business
opportunities for you.

4. Improved Lung Function

Regular sport causes more oxygen to be drawn into the body with carbon
monoxide and waste gases expelled. This increases the lung capacity during
sport, improving lung function and efficiency.

5. Increased Confidence
By training frequently and working towards seasonal goals you can build your
confidence and abilities. This is especially noticeable through tournaments and
matches where you and your team put your skills to the test. Small,
incremental achievements throughout the year can build personal confidence
over time, giving you the ability to take on new projects and assignments at
work with your new-found confidence.

6. Reduces Stress
When you are physically active your mind gets a chance to unplug from daily
stresses and strains of life. Physical exercise reduces the stress hormones in
your body and stimulates the release of endorphins. These endorphins may
give you more energy and focus for whatever life has.

7. Improve Mental Health

The Public Health Agency report that regular participation in sport and being
active can also promote good mental health. This includes improving your
mood, enhancing your sense of well-being, reducing anxiety, combating
negative emotions and protecting against depression.

8. Sport Builds Leaders

All sport teams need leaders to show the

way and help develop new or younger team
members. An emergenetics study has found
a correlation between playing sports and
strong leadership qualities. Sports enable
people to develop a ‘team mindset’ whether
it's winning, losing or training together.

9. Develop Stronger Relationships

Sports enables you to build better relationships with people you may be aware
of, but not know personally. Through frequent sport you can get to know a lot
about an individual’s personality, their strengths and weaknesses. Sport with
colleagues is a good opportunity to build better relationships and networks that
may help you in your job.

10. Sport aids the healthy development of children

Children who play sports develop stronger bones and muscles, leading to a
smaller chance of physical injury. Physical exercise before the onset of puberty
has been identified by a New Zealand study as a way of reaching peak bone
mass, enabling children to become stronger – a great foundation for future
growth.
