Philosophical Ethics

1. TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF. NAME AND BASIC INFO; YOUR

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS; SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR FAMILY, ORIGIN AND
BIRTH; YOUR RELIGION/SPIRITUALITY (IF YOU HAVE); YOUR OUTLOOK IN LIFE

My name is Aleiah Jane Alverio, but my friends affectionately call me Aj, Ale, or Leang, depending
on their preference. I’m currently 21 years old and turning 22 in June, I am residing in Tanza,
Cavite, which I have called home for almost her 14 years. As a working student, I juggle my studies
with my job at a local fast-food chain here in Cavite. The salary may not be very high, but it is
enough to support myself and help my parents with their daily living expenses. I come from a
family of five and proudly take on the role of the eldest sibling. My brother is a freshman pursuing
his BSEE degree here at National University, while my sister is struggling through her 9th grade.
My upbringing has its roots in Leyte, where my father is from, and Bicol, where my mother is from.
Originally, my younger brother and I were raised by our grandparents as our parents worked
tirelessly in Manila to support us. But even as we grew up and settled into our own homes, our bond
with our grandparents remained strong. They have given us valuable life lessons and guidance and
shaped who we are as people. My Lolo's death in December 2022 tragically brought deep sadness to
our family. This loss affected my Lola greatly and despite our attempts to be with her, she chose to
remain in Bicol. Unfortunately, her health deteriorated and she passed away from epilepsy in
November 2023 after a battle with the disease. The pain of her absence still lingers and we are still
processing her acceptance. When it comes to matters of faith, I identify as Roman Catholic, but I
find solace and connection in a different environment. Although I respect the traditions of the
Catholic Church, I feel more at home in a born-again community that actively participates in music
ministry. Music has always been a passion of mine, and ministering through music allows me to
express myself as I progress on my spiritual journey. Despite life's challenges and uncertainties, I
remain optimistic. Not every situation is ideal, but I strongly believe in the power of turning
adversity into something special. It is this attitude that keeps me going and ready for whatever life
may bring.

2. ANSWER IN ALL HONESTY. DO YOU THINK A COURSE IN ETHICS IS STILL

SIGNIFICANT TO THE YOUTH? IS IT SIGNIFICANT TO YOU? WHY OR WHY NOT?

Yes, I believe that ethics lessons are still important for youth, and they have personal meaning for
me as well. Ethics form the basis of how we act in the world, make decisions, and interact with
others. Understanding ethics helps young people develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and
moral reasoning in today's complex, rapidly changing society with a wide range of perspectives and
values. Ethics education provides a framework for considering ethical dilemmas, weighing different
perspectives, and making informed decisions that are consistent with one's values. It provides
individuals with the tools to navigate ethical gray areas and promotes responsibility and integrity in
their actions. Personally, ethics are the basis of my approach to life and interactions with others.
I believe in treating people with dignity and respect, acting honestly and ethically in all situations,
and considering the consequences of one's actions for individuals and society as a whole. Ethics
serve as a guide to my decision-making process, shape my actions, and contribute to my sense of
identity and meaning. In a world where ethical considerations are becoming increasingly important,
especially in light of advances in technology and globalization, ethics courses provide valuable
guidance and prepare young people to deal with moral challenges with care and integrity.

3. WHAT POINT FROM THE ARTICLE OF PAUL PARDI YOU THINK WILL BE MOST
BENEFICIAL TO YOU AND WHY?
The idea is that philosophy encourages critical thinking and self-reflection. In today`s fast-paced
world, where information is abundant and opinions easily accessible, it is important to develop the
ability to think critically and rigorously evaluate ideas. Additionally, philosophy encourages self-
reflection by inviting individuals to examine their own beliefs, assumptions, and values. Overall,
philosophy's emphasis on critical thinking and self-reflection can be very helpful in navigating the
complexities of modern life and striving for personal growth and fulfillment.
