 Water is virtually everywhere. We cannot survive without water.

From soil, moisture, ice caps,

to the cells on our own bodies.
 At birth human babies are even wetter. Being 75% of water (swimmingly similar to a fish) but
drops to 65% during first birthday.
H20
 Lubricate joints
 Regulate temperature
 Nourish the brain and spinal cord
Water isn’t just always in the blood.
(draw) Adult’s brain and heart are almost ¾ quarters of water. (equivalent to moisture of a banana)
Lungs are more similar to apple at 83% (lose water through evaporation by inhaling and exhaling the
air, inner layer of lungs is covered of moisture) (THIRST HYPOTHALAMUS) brain detects low water
which is located at the thirst center of brain (hypothalamus) that (regulates concentration of
sodium) detects change and urge you to drink
Dry human bones are 31% of water

Surface tension= cohesive force between molecules of water at the surface. The high surface
tension of water is caused by strong molecular interactions. Water molecules have a high polarity
which allows them to form strong hydrogen bonds.
Surface tension of water can cause things to float which are denser than water.

Density is a measure of how heavy something is compared to its size. If an object is more dense than
water it will sink when placed in water, and if it is less dense than water it will float.

If we are essentially made of water, and surrounded by water, why do we still need to drink so
much?
Each day we lose 2-3 liters through our sweat, urine, and bowel movements and even just for
breathing.

1. Water Protects Your Tissues, Spinal Cord, and Joints

Water does more than just quench your thirst and regulate your body's temperature; it keeps the
tissues in your body moist, according to the Mayo Clinic Health System. You know how it feels when
your eyes, nose, or mouth gets dry? Keeping your body hydrated helps it retain optimum levels of
moisture in these sensitive areas, as well as in the blood, bones, and brain. In addition, water helps
protect the spinal cord, and it acts as a lubricant and cushion for your joints.
Water is what helps thin the blood and move nutrients and oxygen through the body. That's
why it's crucial to drink a lot of water after an injury or surgery, so that these cell-repairing nutrients
can be easily brought to the recovering area.
2. Water Helps Your Body Remove Waste.
Water helps the kidneys to filter toxins and waste while the organ retains essential nutrients and
electrolytes. When the body is dehydrated, the kidneys retain fluid. Dehydration can also result in hard
or lumpy stools and constipation. Water keeps waste moving by softening or loosening hardened stools.
3. Water Aids in Digestion.
In fact, drinking water during or after a meal helps how your body breaks down and processes
food (digestion).
“Some people who drink water alongside meals have also shown a tendency to have an
expanded colon,”
“By drinking water right after your meals, you are again tampering the natural time it takes for
your food to digest. This also makes you feel hungrier faster than anticipated and results in overeating
and bloating.”
4. Water Prevents You From Becoming Dehydrated.
Water helps regulate body temperature, lubricate joints, transport nutrients, remove waste, and
circulate blood. That means your body can't properly perform these functions if you're dehydrated,
which happens when you lose more fluids than you take in
5. Water Helps Your Brain Function Optimally.
Water helps your brain cells communicate with each other, clears out toxins and waste that impairs
brain function, and carries nutrients to your brain. This all falls apart if your fluid levels drop. Staying
hydrated has been linked to: Faster decision making and improved performance on cognitive tests.

Dehydration= your brain can shrink in size because of lack of water.

Over dehydration (hyponatremia)= athletes = can lead to water intoxication

Physical properties of water

(example is sa dagat kapag may bagyo, mainit water and kapag summer ay malamig) change of
temperature
Water can absorb a lot of heat without reaching high temperature
Density = 1g/ cm^3 or you can use this (1g cm^-3) if you don’t want to use /.
(water is a powerful solvent, that means it can dissolve many other molecules especially polar
molecules and ionic compounds)
A polar molecule is a molecule in which one end of the molecule is slightly positive, while the other
end is slightly negative. (unequal sharing of electrons)
A water molecule has an uneven distribution of charge, this is because oxygen has a stronger
attraction or pull on electrons than hydrogen.

Ionic compounds are neutral compounds made up of positively charged ions called cations and
negatively charged ions called anions.
It is very important kagaya nung tinackle kanina na water use by organisms to solvent. Yung mga
systems, hindi sila makakafunction nang maayos without the water. Parang yung water ay langis ng
katawan sa isang makina
