Tone of voice
It is important when teaching young children
about boundaries and expectations that all
practitioners adopt the same approach and
tone of voice when giving simple instructions.
‘Yes’ and ‘no’ in a sing-song voice as part of a
game or song are very different from a firm ’no!’
to warn a child of danger. Sharing a consistent
approach with home is equally important for
the child’s developing awareness of social and
behavioural boundaries.
