PHYSICAL EDUCATION

• According to Andin 1988 he defined PE as


an integral part of educational program
design to promote an optimum development
of an individual physically, mentally, socially,
and emotionally through total body
movement in the performance of properly
selected physical activities.

•It aims to develop students' physical
competence and knowledge of
movement and safety, and their ability
to use these to perform in a wide range
of activities associated with the
development of an active and healthy
lifestyle.

What is physical activity?
• WHO defines physical activity as any bodily movement
produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy
expenditure.
• Physical activity refers to all movement including
during leisure time, for transport to get to and from
places, or as part of a person’s work. Both moderate-
and vigorous-intensity physical activity improve health.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
• Physical activity can be defined as any
movement of the body that requires energy
expenditure.
• This includes any motion you do through the day
excluding sitting still or lying down.
• For example, walking to class, taking the stairs,
and even cleaning your house can be considered
physical activity.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
•Exercise is a type of physical activity
but not every physical activity is
exercise.
•Exercise is a planned, structured, and
repetitive activity for the purpose of
improving or maintain physical fitness.
BENEFITS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
• Reduced risk for cardiovascular disease, type II
diabetes, certain cancers, and other chronic health
conditions
• Help with weight control
• Reduce Aging
• Strengthens bones and muscles
• Improves mental health, mood, and energy level

perform one’s tasks efficiently
without undue fatigue but with
extra reserve in case of
emergency.

•Health Related Physical Fitness - involves
skills that enable one to become and stay
physically healthy.
•Skills Related Physical Fitness - involves
skills that will enhance one’s performance
in athletic or sports events.
Health-Related to Physical Fitness
•Cardiorespiratory Endurance- is the fitness
of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels.
•Muscular Strength- this is the amount of
force muscles can produce.
•Muscular Endurance- this is the ability of a
muscle or group of muscles to remain
contracted for a long period of time

•Flexibility- this is the ability to use your
joints fully through a wide range of motion.
•Body Composition- it is the relative
percentage of the different body tissues
such as muscle, fat, and bone.

• Agility- ability to rapidly change the position of
the entire body in space with speed and
accuracy.
• Balance- relates to the maintenance of
equilibrium while stationary or moving.
• Coordination- ability to use the senses together
with body parts in performing motor tasks
smoothly and accurately.
SKILLS RELATED PHYSICAL FITNESS
• Power- is the ability to move the body parts swiftly
while applying the maximum force of the muscles.
Power is a combination of both speed and muscular
strength.
• Reaction Time- relates to the time elapsed between
stimulation and the beginning of the reaction.
• Speed- relates to perform a movement within a short
period of time.
