an integral part of educational program design to promote an optimum development of an individual physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally through total body movement in the performance of properly selected physical activities. PHYSICAL EDUCATION •It aims to develop students' physical competence and knowledge of movement and safety, and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION • PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT • MENTAL DEVELOPMENT • EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT • SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT Four Objectives of Physical Education 1. improved physical fitness 2. appreciation of physical activity 3. sportsmanship development 4. improved social skills. What is physical activity? • WHO defines physical activity as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy expenditure. • Physical activity refers to all movement including during leisure time, for transport to get to and from places, or as part of a person’s work. Both moderate- and vigorous-intensity physical activity improve health. Health-Related to Physical Fitness •Cardiorespiratory Endurance- is the fitness of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels. •Muscular Strength- this is the amount of force muscles can produce. •Muscular Endurance- this is the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to remain contracted for a long period of time Health-Related to Physical Fitness •Flexibility- this is the ability to use your joints fully through a wide range of motion. •Body Composition- it is the relative percentage of the different body tissues such as muscle, fat, and bone. SKILLS RELATED PHYSICAL FITNESS •Agility •Balance •Coordination •Power •Reaction Time •Speed SKILLS RELATED PHYSICAL FITNESS • Agility- ability to rapidly change the position of the entire body in space with speed and accuracy. • Balance- relates to the maintenance of equilibrium while stationary or moving. • Coordination- ability to use the senses together with body parts in performing motor tasks smoothly and accurately. SKILLS RELATED PHYSICAL FITNESS • Power- is the ability to move the body parts swiftly while applying the maximum force of the muscles. Power is a combination of both speed and muscular strength. • Reaction Time- relates to the time elapsed between stimulation and the beginning of the reaction. • Speed- relates to perform a movement within a short period of time.
