The Diary Of a Young Girl

When I first picked up the book I was sure that I knew all the story it tells, but I think I
was wrong because I forgot most of the story, and it was very different from the Korean
version of reading it and the English version of the story.
The diary of a young girl first started when the author Anne was a very young girl,
she had received a new diary as a birthday present from her parents. So the diary entries in
that part of the story were not calm and collected, and were written in parts of different
patches of Anne’s school day’s. The story continued on until Anne’s family went into hiding
to the secret annex along with another family who was preparing to go into hiding as well. At
first everything was horrifying for Anne and her family, especially because of the horrible
things that were happening to the Jews around them. In the diary entries after Anne had
completely moved into their new hiding place, she mentioned that the sound of machine
guns could be heard sometimes during the night.
Thankfully, Anne could continue her education with her father and a few books her
parents had bought beforehand. The diary also mentions a new family member who had
joined in on their hiding place. So after that a total of eight people were hiding at the secret
annex. Anne’s daily life in the hiding place was simple but infuriating mostly because they
could no longer see the sun during the day and had to be extra careful so they wouldn't
accidentally reveal themselves to their ignorant neighbors. Anne also mentioned the way
they had managed to buy food, and supplies from the black market with food coupons.
As time flows Anne grew into a teenager in the hiding place, and started to fall in
love with Peter who was the boy who came to live in the secret annex along with his family.
Anne also mentioned that her sister Margot had a secret crush on Peter as well, she also
described Peter as a shy boy when in the scenes in their daily life at the secret annex told
different things about the boy. Anne got the inspiration about publishing her diary when she
heard from the radio that every kind of written document could be a valuable help for
keeping history. So she started rewriting and editing her diaries along with the short stories
she had written for later use.
The diary of Anne Frank ended with her writing about her own feelings on who she
was and who she wanted to be. Three days after she wrote the last entry in her diary the
people from the secret annex were arrested and taken away to prison. In the end the only
person who survived from the eight people who were hiding was Anne’s father who later
found his daughter’s diary and published the diary in hopes of making Anne’s wish come
true.
I was a lot sober by the end of the story, most likely because of the sad situation the
Jew family were in and the sad ending they got. I could see the horrible situation where the
Jews lived during that time, and the unjust treatment they received even after they were
caught and brought to prison. I think it was hard for me to read the story because I knew it
would have a sad ending, and it was hard for me to read about daily life in the secret annex.
