OOTP 25 Base Changelist

Player Development New Features

General Player Development
Can now manage the time and effort each player spends with coaches on improving
different aspects of their game.
Gives you more influence on player development and maintenance by allocating player
time between various parts of training. Have a player focus less on their contact
and devote that time to increasing power, or perhaps have a pitcher sacrifice their
pitch development to work more on control in their bullpen sessions.
Spending more time on one part of their game will increase the coaching influence
on it, and neglecting it will reduce the coaching influence.
Player Development Lab
Each team now has a player development complex, where they can send a couple
players at a time over the course of the offseason and spring training. Here
players will be able to deep dive into their development, working on one of many
development programs targeted at a specific part of their game.
Programs range from generating more bat speed to increase power, to working on
running mechanics to increase speed, to developing a new pitch, to strength and
conditioning to improve durability.
Programs vary in difficulty and range of outcomes, and success is influenced by
many general factors such as age, coaches, personality, and more, as well as
program dependent factors. For example, it’s much easier for a shortstop to slide
over to second base than it is for a first baseman. Or a good contact hitter is
much more likely to improve their bunting ability.
Draft a starter with a weak third pitch? Send him to the lab to improve it. Have a
speedy player that could project well as a leadoff hitter? Send them to work on
their bat to ball skill.

Player Ratings Changes

Added Stealing Aggressiveness
The old Speed rating has been split up into a “Speed” rating controlling rate of
infield hits, triples, avoiding double plays, etc…. and a rate that controls the
runners’ aggressiveness at stealing bases
Added Catcher Framing
The old catcher ability has been split, with framing getting its own rating, and
the old catcher ability rating returning to be more about WP/PB, as a Catcher
Blocking rating
Contact Rating
Power has now been removed from the calculation for Contact. The updated contact
rating is now a mix of the batters’ BABIP rating along with their Avoid K rating
only. The calculation for that has been updated.
Players who relied very heavily on HRs may have very small contact ratings in the
new model. Conversely, players who hit few HRs would be expected to have much
larger values than they used to.
Movement Rating
The balance between BABIP and raw movement (HR avoidance) has been updated
Stuff Rating
The balance for how pitches convert to stuff has been updated
Internal Ratings Update
Internally, all batting/pitching ratings are now on a 1-550 scale, instead of the
old 1-250.
The new MLB default rating is now set at roughly 400, with 500 being an “elite”
rating, and 550 being the maximum rating, reserved for truly elite players
Below that mark, the values roughly should come out to 300 being an average rating
for AAA, 250 should be around average for AA, and so on. Although those ranges will
vary
The Player Editor has now changed around. The ratings section has been broken into
its own tab, and now includes more information (league averages, view ratings), to
more easily see the impact of edits without having to switch back and forth between
tabs
The default view for batters and pitchers will now include their babip ratings in
all game modes
Added new league modifiers/strategy settings
Popup modifier, split batter/pitcher sac bunt, added sac bunt success rate
For various game setups (when the “control totals” option is selected, as well as
tournaments, minor leagues, feeder leagues, and some other situations), how the
game will standardize player ratings internally has significantly changed. This
should provide better accuracy in results
Otherwise, how the league totals and modifiers are used has changed in ALL game
modes. The league totals will now provide much more of a true “target” for the game
engine, meaning that going forward, changes such as increasing the league totals
for HRs will cause the HRs around the league to increase, rather than counter-
intuitively causing a decrease (as the game would suddenly see more players with
below average power).
The general format for the change is that a player with “average” ratings (ie. a
400 rating internally, or a “league average” value if using one of the “controls
totals” modes as listed above) will now essentially aim as being an average hitter
in that category. So if the league settings are set that an average hitter hits 10
HRs, then a player with average power should be expected to hit 10 HR. If the
league average value changes to 20 HRs, then a league average hitter will then be
expected to hit 20 HRs.
The modifier will act on top of that, as it did before. Generally, it can be used
to counter-balance the league averages, so if the average power rating for players
is too low or too high, the modifier can adjust to get the league totals back in
line.
Auto-calc will still function as before, automatically adjusting the modifiers to
get the best statistical balance

Due to the internal ratings changes, a larger update will happen than in previous
versions.
All player ratings will be updated to the new scale, with some balance being
applied to get league totals back in line
Due to the changes mostly to movement and contact ratings, some players may see
some very large shifts in those ratings. Scouting report history, which it should
still be updated to the new scale, will likely show some big variances from earlier
reports
