ABOUT THE ONE WEEK FDP
The environment is one of the basic components of life on earth which makes it
worth living. Environmental protection Laws and institutions have evolved over
five decades and is still in the process of further evolution. The object of
environmental initiatives is to protect the environment through a sectoral as well as
holistic approach. The concept of sustainable development was evolved to enable
the state and the people to realise economic, social and cultural rights for the
present and future generations across the globe. The sustainable development
concept also integrates Biodiversity, Climate Change, and Human Rights through
sustainable consumption. The formation of the World Trade Organisation (WTO)
demands the need for effective conservation of resources. The Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) are set keeping in mind the need for clean water,
affordable energy, climate action, Sustainable City, Sustainable Consumption and
Production and Institutional responsibility for effective implementation of the
targets. The SDG also focuses on the 5 P’s. There are problems with the existing
mechanism in implementing the goals and targets and it necessitates a new
mechanism with overall concern for environmental sustainability between
generations. Over the last several decades, risks have increased, and increasingly
extreme weather conditions are projected to increase in number and scale of
disasters in the future. The Faculty Development Programme is designed so as to
discover the ways and means of implementing the laws and policies towards
realising environmental sustainability between generations. Realizing the need for
the effective consideration of resources and institutional roles, the FIP Committee
plans to organise a one week FDP on “Teaching and Learning of conservation of
resources and Institutional Responsibility in the context of Sustainable Development
Goals - An Interdisciplinary Approach” from 05-10 June 2023.
