Rare Play Booklet, version 1

How To Implement
Any time an X Chart reading is required, first roll 2d6. If the two dice equal 2 or 12, consult the Rare Play
Chart. Otherwise, proceed as you normally would.
If you like the RP results in the Fielding Charts when playing Super Advanced, then only use this Rare Play
Chart if the two dice equal 2. If you’d rather pass on the RP results in SADV Fielding Charts, then use this
Rare Play Chart if you roll 2 or 12 and, if you need to use the SADV Fielding Chart and roll up an RP, ignore
it and re­roll. Or go ahead and use it if you’d like. There’s no hard and fast rule here other than to have fun.
This is just a suggestion.

Rare Play
If a Rare Play is called for, roll d6. On a roll of 1, use the Miscellaneous Chart. On all other rolls, use the
chart associated with the fielder being tested. In either case, make sure to match up the base situation.

Fielder Check
Using the player’s Basic fielding rating, roll d20 to find the correct play result.

A Note on Injuries
You may be concerned about the presence of injuries in these results. But crunching the numbers, it
should result in no more than one extra injury to a team per 25 games or so. I feel this is fairly negligible. I
just played a 90­game project using these charts and ended up with exactly zero injuries that occurred as a
result of these charts. Small sample size aside, I don’t think this will adversely affect your gameplay
experience.

Miscellaneous Chart ­ Bases Empty
[1­4] Check winning percentage of team at bat.
● Less than .400 or higher than .600 ­ Batter flies out. (Use Outfielder Assignment)
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Batter is called out on strikes and is ejected from game for arguing with
the umpire.
[5­6] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Less than .400 ­ Batter draws a base on balls and the catcher is ejected for arguing with umpire.
● .400 or better ­ Batter flies out. (Use Outfielder Assignment)
[7­8] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● .500 or better ­ An outfielder (Use Outfielder Assignment) catches a long fly ball, runs into the wall
and is hurt. He holds on for the catch but is injured.
● Below .500 ­ An outfielder (Use Outfielder Assignment) goes after a deep fly ball, runs into the wall
and is hurt. Batter pulls up with a triple. Outfielder is injured.
[9­10] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ First baseman catches foul ball, running into the stands and injuring self.
● Lower than .400 ­ Double off the wall. Outfielder (Use Outfielder Assignment) runs into the wall and
is injured.
● Between .400 and .499 ­ Foul ball. The catcher and third baseman go after the ball and run into
each other while trying to catch it. Roll d6 for each player. If roll is odd, player is injured.
● Between .500 and .600 ­ Foul ball. The catcher and first baseman go after the ball and run into
each other while trying to catch it. Roll d6 for each player. If roll is odd, player is injured.
[11] If playing indoors, use the regular Fielding X Chart. Otherwise, there is a Rain Delay. For each
pitcher roll d6. If the roll is odd, their arm tightens up and they are now considered tired.
[12] If playing indoors, use the regular Fielding X Chart. Otherwise, there is a Heavy Rain. Continue to
play until either the top of the 5th is completed with the home team in the lead or any half inning following
the 5th in which either team is in the lead. At that point, the game is called.
[13] Catcher’s interference after his glove hits the batter’s bat during a swing. Credit catcher with an
error and award the batter 1st base.
[14­15] Grounder to first, who flips it to pitcher covering the bag for the out. Batter bowls pitcher over.
Pitcher is now tired. If he completes the inning without allowing another base runner, he is no longer tired.
[16­17] Grounder to first baseman, who runs over to touch the bag. Batter runs into him. If fielder remains
in the game, his Running is reduced to 1­7 and his fielding rating becomes a 5.
[18] Grounder to first baseman, who runs over to touch the bag. Batter takes an awkward step trying to
avoid the tag. If he remains in the game, his Running is reduced to 1­7 and his fielding rating becomes a 5.
[19] Hit by pitch. If there have been previous HBP results in the game, the umpire serves a warning to
both benches. If there are any future HBP results, the pitcher is immediately removed from the game.

[20] Hit by pitch. Batter charges mound and tackles pitcher. Both batter and pitcher are ejected from
game. In addition, roll d6. If the roll is a 6, an all­out brawl breaks out on the field. Shuffle both team decks
(including all players) and then look at the top 3 cards for each team. For each player, roll d6.
● 1, 2 or 3 ­ Ignore
● 4 or 5 ­ Player is ejected
● 6 ­ Player is ejected and also suspended. To find out how many games they are suspended for, roll
d6. A roll of 1 or 2 equals a 1­game suspension, 3 or 4 a 2­game suspension, and a 5 or 6 is a
3­game suspension.

[2] Base runner gets signals mixed and attempts to steal 2nd.
[3] Double Play. Runner is hurt sliding into 2nd base. Roll d6 to determine type of DP.

[4­5] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Base runner picked off of first base by pitcher and then ejected after arguing with
umpire.
● Otherwise ­ Fly Out (C). Use Outfielder Assignment Chart.
[6­7] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Lower than .400 ­ High fly ball falls for a DOUBLE** after shortstop and left fielder collide. (With 2
out, change to DOUBLE***.) For each player, roll d6. If odd, player is injured.
● Otherwise ­ Fly Out (C). Use Outfielder Assignment Chart.
[8­9] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Deep fly ball. Center fielder makes the catch, but runs into the wall and is
injured. Batter moves to 2nd.
● Lower than .400 ­ Blooper into right field falls for a SINGLE* after RF and 2B collide. (With 2 out,
change to SINGLE**) For each player, roll d6. If odd, player is injured.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Batter is hit by pitch and injured.
[10­11] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Roll d6.
○ 1 or 2 ­ Foul ball goes off of catcher, injuring him.
○ 3 or 4 ­ Infield hit. Throw to first base pulls him off the bag and into path of the runner,
injuring the fielder.
○ 5 or 6 ­ Foul ball. The catcher and first baseman go after the ball and run into each other
while trying to catch it. Roll d6 for each player. If roll is odd, player is injured.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Rain Delay. Both pitchers POW reduced by 2.
● Lower than .400 ­ Line drive DOUBLE** goes off the third baseman’s leg, injuring him.
[12] If playing indoors, use the regular Fielding X Chart. Otherwise, heavy rain moves in. Continue to
play until either the top of the 5th is completed with the home team in the lead or any half inning following
the 5th in which either team is in the lead. At that point, after every half inning, roll 2d6. If doubles are
rolled, the game is called.
[13] Batter strikes out and catcher throws down to 1st, catching the base runner for a DP.
[14] Batter strikes out and is ejected after arguing with ump.
[15­17] Pitcher forgets about base runner who steals 2nd. Catcher’s throw down to 2nd sails high and goes
into center fielder. Runner goes for third. Roll against their Running Rating to see if they are safe on an E­2
or thrown out on an 8­5.
[18] Pitcher catches base runner leaning off the bag. Roll d6. If roll is 6, batter makes it to 2nd.
Otherwise, they are thrown out on a 1­3­6­3.
[19] Batter swings and misses on first pitch strike. Catcher tries to pick runner off 1st. Roll d6. If roll is
higher than catcher’s fielding rating, base runner is picked off.
[20] High pop fly in back of the mound falls untouched after miscommunication among infielders.
SINGLE*. (With two out, change to a DOUBLE***)

[1] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Fly out to right. If less than 2 out, runner thrown out going for 3rd on a 9­5 DP
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Runner picked off of 2nd on a 1­6.
● Lower than .400 ­ Runner thrown out going for 3rd on a 6­5 FC. With two out, throw goes to 1st
instead.
[2] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Line drive SINGLE* off of pitcher, who is injured.
● Otherwise ­ E6. Runner holds at 2nd unless there are 2 outs in which case he advances to 3rd.
[3­7] Base runner gets signals mixed and attempts to steal 3rd.
[8] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Batter safe on a 4­5 FC; Runner thrown out at 3rd.
● Otherwise ­ Fly out to right. Use Running Rating as man on 2nd attempts to go to 3rd.
[9] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Runner picked off 2nd by catcher. 2­4.
● Otherwise ­ Runner steals 3rd and then scores on an E­2.
[10] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Foul out to third baseman.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ SINGLE**. Batter then ruled out on an appeal for having missed 3rd. Give
putout to 3B.
● Lower than .400 ­ SINGLE. Runner ruled out after being hit by batted ball.
[11] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ 3­6 DP, runner injured sliding into 2nd
● Between .400 and .600 ­ SINGLE. Runner attempts to score. (Use Running Rating to determine
result.) Catcher injured on a collision at the plate.
● Lower than .400 ­ SINGLE* on a popup that falls behind second base. With 2 out, change to
SINGLE** and 2B and SS collide. Roll d6 for each. Odd roll indicates injury.
[12] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Pitcher attempts pickoff throw that goes into center. Check Running Rating of
Batter.
○ 10 or Lower ­ Runner holds at second.
○ 11 or Higher ­ Runner thrown out at third on an 8­5.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Squibber up the line. Batter collides with pitcher and is ruled out on a
putout to the pitcher. Pitcher is injured.
● Lower than .400 ­ Drive into the gap in left­center. LF and CF collide. Roll d6 for each. Odd roll
indicates injury. Check Running Rating of Batter.
○ 16 or Higher ­ TRIPLE.
○ 15 or Lower ­ DOUBLE***.
[13] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Pop out to catcher.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ SINGLE*. Batter fakes bunt and then lines ball off of charging first
baseman, who is injured.
● Lower than .400 ­ Double off wall in right as RF runs into wall and is injured. Batter thrown out going
for 3rd on an 8­4­5.

[14] Playing indoors or outdoors?
● Indoors ­ Use the regular Fielding X Chart.
● Outdoors ­ Drizzle on the field creates wet conditions. Add 1 to all OF Range Ratings for duration
of game. (i.e. a 2­rated LF becomes a 3 if playing Basic. In Advances a 2e7 becomes a 3e7.)
[15­18] Wild pitches caroms off backstop and eludes everybody. Runner advances to 3rd and then tries to
make it all the way home. Roll against their Running Rating to see if they score or are thrown out at the
plate on a 2­1.
[19­20] Pitcher on the mound becomes disgruntled about a call that he thought he didn’t get. For the
remainder of the game, anytime a WALK is rolled while this pitcher is on the mound, roll d6. If the roll is
odd, the pitcher is ejected for arguing.

[1] Pop up to the pitcher.
[2] Base runner is picked off of third base by the catcher.
[4­5] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ 1B makes catch deep in foul territory. Man on 3rd can attempt to tag up.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Batter safe at first after man on 3rd is ruled out for interference with
catcher’s throw home. Scores as a 5­2.
● Lower than .400 ­ 1B makes catch deep in foul territory. Man on 3rd can attempt to tag up.
[6­7] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Strange double play as man on 3rd is thrown out in a rundown, batter gets to 2nd
on a wild throw, then is thrown out at 3rd. Score as a 3­2­5­2­E2­9­5.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Batter appears to hit an RBI double, scoring the runner, but is ruled out on
an appeal play for having missed 1st base. (Credit 1B with the putout.) With 2 outs, the run does
not count.
● Lower than .400 ­ Hard grounder comes up and goes off of third baseman’s face, injuring him.
Check Runner Rating of man on 3rd.
○ 10 or Lower ­ Batter safe on fielder’s choice as runner thrown out at the plate on a 5­6­2 as
the ball bounces to the shortstop who throws him out at home.
○ 11 or Higher ­ Batter safe on an RBI single.
[8­9] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Batter out at first and runner on 3rd thrown out at the plate for a 5­3­2 double
play.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Check Running Rating of Batter
○ 16 or Higher ­ Batter safe on a DOUBLE, but injured sliding into 2nd
○ 15 or Lower ­ Batter singles into right, but then injured sliding into 2nd where he is thrown
out on a 9­6.
● Lower than .400 ­ Second baseman drops a high popup on the infield for an E­4. How many outs
are there?
○ 2 outs ­ Runner on 3rd scores.
○ 0 or 1 out ­ Check Running Rating of Man on 3rd.
■ 16 or Higher ­ Runner on 3rd scores.
■ 15 or Lower ­ Runner thrown out at the plate by the second baseman.
[10­11] Pitch bounces away from the catcher. Offensive manager can attempt to send runner from 3rd. If
he is safe, rule it a wild pitch. If he is out, catcher throws to pitcher covering home for the out.
[12­15] Pitcher on the mound becomes disgruntled about a call that he thought he didn’t get. For the
remainder of the game, anytime a WALK is rolled while this pitcher is on the mound, roll d6. If the roll is
odd, the pitcher is ejected for arguing.
[16] Wild pitch. Man on 3rd scores. Catcher is injured while trying to block the pitch.
[17] Passed ball. Man on 3rd scores. While sliding home, the pitcher accidentally steps on the base
runner’s hand, injuring him.
[18] Balk. Pitcher ejected for arguing with the call.
[19] Pitcher is found to be doctoring the ball and is ejected.
[20] Shattered bat SINGLE*. Roll d6. If roll is odd, ump finds that the bat is corked. Batter is ruled out,
runner is sent back to 3rd, and the batter is ejected from the game.

[1­5] Base runners miss signs and attempt a double steal. Defensive manager can attempt to throw
either runner out.
[6] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Ground ball to first baseman, who flips to pitcher covering 1st base for the out.
Runners move up one base. Pitcher is run into by batter and gets injured.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Grounder to third baseman who throws to second baseman covering 2nd
base for the force out there. Base runner sliding into 2nd is injured.
● Lower than .400 ­ Ground ball to first baseman, who flips to pitcher covering 1st base for the out.
Runners move up one base. Pitcher is run into by batter and gets injured.
[7­8] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Rain Delay. Subtract 2 from the POW of the pitcher on the team at bat and 1
from the POW of the pitcher on the team in the field.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Foul ball on the right side. First baseman goes over to make the catch but
a fan reaches out and grabs for the ball, knocking it out of his way. Roll d6. If 1, ump misses the
call and it’s just a foul ball. Otherwise, if rolling 2 through 6, batter is out on fan interference. Give
first baseman the putout.
● Lower than .400 ­ Base hit through the right side. Ball hits base runner on 1st, who is ruled out.
(Credit second baseman with the putout.) Man on 2nd holds.
[9­10] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Fly Out (B?) RF
● Between .400 and .600 ­ SINGLE* into left center. (With 2 outs, make it a SINGLE**) Left fielder
and shortstop collide going for the ball. Roll d6 for each player. If odd, player is injured.
● Lower than .400 ­ Long fly ball into right center goes for a TRIPLE after the CF and RF collide. Roll
d6 for each player. If odd, player is injured.
[11­12] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Unassisted triple play! Line out to 2B who touches 2nd to double that runner off
and then tags the runner coming in from first.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Looping line drive into center field is caught by the outfielder who then
throws to 2nd and on to 1st for a triple play. Score it 8­6­3.
● Lower than .400 ­ Fly Out to left. Runners hold.
[13­14] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Check Running Rating of man on 1st:
○ 16 or Higher ­ Line out double play, 6­4, with man doubled off of 2nd.
○ 15 or Lower ­ Line out triple play, 6­4­3.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Check Running Rating of man on 2nd:
○ 16 or Higher ­ Line out to first baseman, who steps on bag to double runner off 1st. He
throws to 2nd to attempt a triple play but the throw is wild and goes into the outfield for an
error, allowing the runner to score from 2nd.
○ 15 or Lower ­ Line out to first baseman, who steps on bag to double runner off 1st. He
throws to 2nd to attempt a triple play but the throw is wild and goes into the outfield for an
error, allowing the runner to move to 3rd.
● Lower than .400 ­ Triple Play on a line out to the first baseman, who steps on the bag to double the
runner off of 1st and then throws to second to retire the man there on a 3­6.
[15] Base runner on 2nd base misses a sign and attempts to steal third.
[16­17] Grounder to short who flips to second base for the force out. Runner comes in hard, bowling over
the second baseman. Players start a fight and are each ejected from the game.

[18] Grounder to short who flips to 2nd for the force out. Base runner slides hard into second baseman,
preventing him from attempting to turn a double play. Ump rules that he slid out of the baseline and rules
both the runner and the batter out. If this doesn’t make 3 outs, the runner from 2nd base is sent back to
2nd as well.
[19] Sinking liner into center field, perhaps caught by a diving outfielder. Ump rules that he trapped the
ball. Runner on first thrown out at second on an 8­6, man on 2nd moves up to 3rd, batter safe on a single.
[20] Broken bat SINGLE** through the right side when second baseman is distracted by bat shards.

[1­3] Base runner on 1st gets signals mixed and attempts to steal 2nd.
[4­6] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Infield is playing...
○ Deep ­ Batter out, runner on 1st to 2nd, runner on 3rd out in a rundown. 3­5­2­5
○ In ­ Grounder to second baseman, who looks runner back to third, tags man coming from
1st, then throws to 1st for a 4­3 double play.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ Infield is playing...
○ Deep ­ Batter out on a grounder to the catcher. Runners advance one base. Batter
collides with first baseman. For each, roll d6. If roll is odd, player is injured.
○ In ­ SINGLE*. Runner on 1st caught between 2nd and 3rd in a rundown. 8­6­5­4
● Lower than .400 ­ Infield is playing...
○ Deep ­ Catcher drops popup in front of the plate for an E­2. With two outs, man on 3rd
scores and man on 1st moves to third. With less than two out, the man on 1st moves up
to 2nd and the man on 3rd holds.
○ In ­ SINGLE* on a hard grounder knocked down by the second baseman. Fielder picks up
ball and attempts to get runner who got late break from 3rd. The throw is wild, allowing
runner from 1st to make it to 3rd on the E­4. Catcher throws down to 3rd to try to get that
runner and the throw goes into left, allowing him to score on an E­2. Finally, batter is
thrown out trying to make it to 3rd on a 7­5.
[7] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Fly out to left. If that doesn’t make three outs, the runner on 3rd tags up and
scores. However, on appeal, he’s found to have left the bag too early. Credit 3B with putout.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ With two out, DOUBLE***. Otherwise, batter hits a towering fly ball that
drops between outfielders for a SINGLE*, but then passes base runner on 1st and is ruled out
(credit 2B with putout); runner from 1st gets to 2nd.
● Lower than .400 ­ Home Run that bounces back into field of play. Man on 3rd scores. In confusion,
man on 1st runs back to 1st and is passed on the bases by the batter. The batter is ruled out
(credit 1B with putout) and given credit for a 2­RBI SINGLE*** instead.
[8] Check winning percentage of team in the field.
● Higher than .600 ­ Fly out to right. If this doesn’t make the third out, runner on 3rd thrown out trying
to tag up. If that doesn’t make third out, runner on 1st thrown out (2­6) trying to reach 2nd on the
throw home.
● Between .400 and .600 ­ With two out, DOUBLE***. Otherwise, batter hits a towering fly ball that
drops between outfielders for a SINGLE*, but then passes base runner on 1st and is ruled out
(credit 2B with putout); runner from 1st gets to 2nd.
● Lower than .400 ­ Home Run that bounces back into field of play. Man on 3rd scores. In confusion,
man on 1st runs back to 1st and is passed on the bases by the batter. The batter is ruled out
(credit 1B with putout) and given credit for a 2­RBI SINGLE*** instead.
[9­10] Strikeout. Batter ejected for arguing with ump.
[11] If playing indoors, use the regular Fielding X Chart. Otherwise, there is a Rain Delay. For each
pitcher roll d6. If the roll is odd, their arm tightens up and they are now considered tired.
[12] If playing indoors, use the regular Fielding X Chart. Otherwise, there is a Heavy Rain. Continue to
play until either the top of the 5th is completed with the home team in the lead or any half inning following
the 5th in which either team is in the lead. At that point, the game is called.
[13] Trainer is called out to the mound. Pitcher has developed a large blister and must be removed.

[14­16] Man on 1st attempts to steal. Defense has choice:
● Hold runner on 3rd and concede stolen base to runner from 1st.
● Throw runner out from 1st (2­6­3­4) in a rundown, allowing runner to score from 3rd.
● Cut­off throw to 2nd and attempt to get runner coming from 3rd. If this choice, roll d6. Odd roll
means runner thrown out at home on a 2­6­2 and man on 1st moves up to 2nd on a SB. Even roll
means both runners are safe on a double SB.
[17] Catcher goes for a foul ball towards the stands. He makes the catch but collides with a wall and
falls. If there are 2 outs and the man on 3rd has Running of 16 or higher, he tags up and scores. Either
way, catcher is injured.
[18] Batter hits ball off his foot and is affected. While not technically injured, his Running is reduced by
4 for the remainder of the game.
[19] Runner on 1st picked off by the pitcher.
[20] If runner on 3rd has Steal rating of A or better, he attempts to steal home.

[1] Roll d6.
● If roll is odd ­ Ground ball on the right side. First baseman dives to stop it, then scrambles to touch
the bag with his glove. Roll against batter’s Running Rating to see if they are safe on an infield
SINGLE* or just plain out. Regardless, batter steps on fielder’s exposed hand, injuring him.
● If roll is even ­ Line drive goes off the third baseman for a SINGLE*. Fielder is injured.
[2] Dropped third strike on a strikeout. Batter out on a 2­3 putout and runners advance one base.
