How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

✘ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

✘ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
Students will begin learning about the water cycle by watching educational videos that are posted
on PBS LearningMedia and BrainPop and completing guided notes. After completing guided notes,

students will be put into groups of 3 or 4 students. I will then introduce the project by asking them
to create one video as a group on the water cycle using texts, pictures, and audio. After giving
instructions, I will pass out a storyboard to each student. Each student will individually complete
their own storyboard. Afterwards, I will hand out one more storyboard to each group. Using their
own storyboards, students must collaborate within their group by picking pieces from each
individual storyboard to create one cohesive one that they will use to create their video. When they
have completed the cohesive, group storyboard, students will turn in their individual story board.
After, students will begin to work on creating their video in their groups. Students will collaborate
and work together on one video per group and present it on the due date of the project. As they are
working on their videos, I will walk around the class and ask each group different questions and talk
to them to ensure they are all collaborating and not just one student is creating the video. I will
conclude this lesson by asking students to present their project to the class and afterwards, pass out
grading sheets to everyone. This grading sheet will ask each student to grade their peers in their
group based on if they were collaborative and to ensure all students did their fair share during this
project. I will collect the grading sheets and each individual student will be graded based on their
group’s video and their peer’s grade on their collaboration, teamwork, and focus during the process.
Managing student learning: I believe this lesson will cause a shift in student learning as it is student-
centered learning. Although the project is teacher led, students are learning by watching videos and then
using their knowledge to present a video. This is a creative way to display and express their knowledge using
multimedia. Students will stay on task by having a set time limit of two whole class days to create their video
as well as submitting a storyboard beforehand.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
Asking students to create a video to display their learning will utilize multiple means of action and
expression. Creating a video optimizes student access to tools by learning how to navigate and use
Canva. In addition, this is a way to use multimedia (video) to display their thinking and express what
they have learned in a creative way. Their learning will be guided, and students will be given direct
learning as well as my support as they are creating their video if they have any questions.
Reflection: This activity/project will impact student learning by deepening and solidifying their
knowledge through project-based learning and being creative. I look forward to implementing this
lesson to see how students work together and giving them an opportunity to innovatively display
their knowledge.
