Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat: A Landmark Building

Overview

The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, inaugurated on April

30th, 2023, is the administrative center of the Telangana government.
Named after the architect of the Indian Constitution, this grand structure
boasts a unique architectural style and sustainable features.

feet.

Secretariat's domes draw inspiration
from various historical sites:

Commemoration and Location

● Unveiled by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Dr.

B.R. Ambedkar's 132nd birth anniversary (April 14, 2023).
● Located at Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad.
● Now the tallest statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in India.

Key Features

● Height: 125 feet (statue) with a

50-ft-high circular base, resulting in a
total height of 175 feet.
● Base Design: The base resembles the
edifice of the Parliament of India.
● Sculptors: Designed by renowned
sculptors Ram Vanji Sutar (98) and his
son Anil Ram Sutar (65) from Ram Sutar
Art Creations, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
● Cost: Estimated at Rs 146.50 crore.

Pedestal and Amenities

● The statue rests on a three-floor pedestal with a total area of 26,258

sq ft.
● Museum: Houses articles and pictures depicting Dr. Ambedkar's life.
● Auditorium: A 100-seater space for audio-visual presentations on Dr.
Ambedkar's life.
● Location Significance:
○ Situated opposite the Buddha statue.
○ Located beside the Telangana Martyrs memorial.

Telangana State Police Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC)

Inauguration and Inspiration

● Inaugurated by Chief Minister KCR on August 4th (year not

mentioned).
● Construction began in 2015, inspired by models of command and
control centers in foreign countries.

● Five Towers: Each tower serves a specific

function.
○ Tower A: Hyderabad Police
Commissioner's Office
○ Tower B: Technology Fusion Center
- Manages emergency response

room.

Telangana's B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat is the only other building in
Hyderabad with this distinction.
Telangana Martyrs Memorial: A Symbol of Sacrifice

Dedication: The Telangana Martyrs Memorial is a building dedicated to the

martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the separate Telangana
state.

Unique Structure:

● Largest Seamless Stainless Steel Monument: It is the biggest

seamless stainless steel structure in the world, fabricated in Dubai.
● Dimensions: Height - 48 M, Width - 50 M, Depth - 28 M
● Total Area: 3.26 acres with a total built-up area of 2.85 lakh sq ft
● Design Inspiration: The polished and puffed exterior resembles
structures like the ‘Cloud Gate’ or the Chicago ‘Bean’ and ‘The
Bubble’ in Karamay, China.

Key Features:

● Symbolic Flame: A giant reddish-yellow flame atop the structure

symbolizes the essence of the decades-long struggle for Telangana
statehood.
● Anti-Rust Construction: The outer bean shape is made of special 316
L type of stainless steel, resistant to rust, corrosion, and high
temperatures. A total of 120 tonnes of stainless steel were used.

● Multi-Floor Complex:
○ First Floor: Museum dedicated to the
martyrs with photographs adorning
the walls.
○ Second Floor: Convention hall with a
seating capacity of around 700
people.
○ Third & Fourth Floors: Restaurants
and seating areas with glass roofs.
○ Top Floor: Offers a spectacular view
of the surroundings.

 ● Telugu Thalli Statue: A statue of Telugu Thalli, the mother goddess of
Telugu culture, is installed before the entrance.

Significance:

● Commemoration: Telangana Martyrs Memorial, also called

Telangana Amara Jyothi or Amaraveerula Stupam, is a monument
built for 369 students who died during the 1969 agitation for a
separate Telangana state.
● Annual Observance: Telangana Martyrs Memorial Day is observed on
June 2nd every year in all districts of Telangana State.
● Location: The memorial is situated on the banks of Hussain Sagar
lake, opposite the Public Gardens in Hyderabad
Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge: A Landmark Infrastructure Project

Inauguration: The Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge was inaugurated by

Municipal Administration Minister KTR on
September 25th, 2020.

Project Details:

● Undertaken by: Greater Hyderabad

Municipal Corporation (GHMC) under the
Strategic Road Development Project.
● Constructed by: L&T (Larsen & Toubro)
● Location: Madhapur, near Inorbit Mall

Salient Features:

● World's Longest Span Concrete Deck Extradosed Cable-Stayed

Bridge: This bridge holds the distinction of being the world's longest
span concrete deck extradosed cable-stayed bridge.
● Total Length: 735 meters (including approaches)
● Extradosed Cable-Stayed Bridge Length: 425 meters
● Stay Cables: 52 (26 on each side)
● First Cable Bridge Lighting with Media Content in India: This bridge
boasts the first cable bridge lighting system in India that can depict
media content.

Significance:

The Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge is a significant infrastructure project that

addresses traffic congestion in Hyderabad by connecting Jubilee Hills with
the Financial District and Madhapur. It serves as a landmark achievement in
engineering and construction, showcasing India's technological
advancements in bridge design.

Yadadri Thermal Power Plant (Yadadri TPS)

Project Description:

● Capacity: 4,000 megawatt (MW) supercritical thermal power project

● Location: Dameracherla, Nalgonda district, Telangana, India
● Project Owner: Telangana State Power Generation Corporation
Limited (TSGENCO)
● Land Acquisition: 2,800 acres near Veerlapalem Village
● Significance:
○ Second largest thermal power project in South India
○ Third thermal power plant after the formation of Telangana
○ Contributes to meeting Telangana's power demands

Project Details:

● Contractor: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL)

● Plant Configuration: 5 x 800 MW units

Background:

● This project is the second mega thermal power project announced by

the Telangana government after the Bhadradri Thermal Power
Project.
● It is the third thermal power plant taken up by TSGENCO after the
establishment of the Kothagudem thermal plant (800 MW) and the
commissioning of the 1,080 MW Bhadradri plant.

Boosting Connectivity: Two-Storeyed Cable Bridge Across Krishna River

Project Overview:

● The Union government has sanctioned a two-storied cable bridge

across the Krishna River at Somasila to connect Telangana and
Andhra Pradesh.
● This new four-lane carriageway bridge is estimated to cost ₹1,100
crore and is part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana infrastructure
development project.

 ● The bridge will significantly reduce the travel distance between
Hyderabad and Tirupati by 90 km by providing a more direct route via
Nandyal.

● The bridge boasts several distinctive elements, including:

○ The longest glass pedestrian walkway ever built across a river in
India.
○ Pylons resembling temple gopurams, adding an aesthetic touch.
○ Striking signature lighting for nighttime visibility.

company formed through a joint

India's First Aerotropolis Project:

● GHIAL is developing India's first Airport City (Aerotropolis)

encompassing 1,500 acres.

Hyderabad Metro Rail: Transforming Urban Connectivity

Inauguration and Partnership:

● Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Hyderabad Metro in

November 2017.
● Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP)
project constructed by L&T.

Network Coverage:

● The network spans 69.2 km across three

corridors:
○ Corridor I: Miyapur to LB Nagar
○ Corridor II: JBS to MGBS
○ Corridor III: Nagole to Raidurgam

Airport Connectivity:

● A 31 km long airport corridor connecting Raidurg Metro station to

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is under construction with an
estimated cost of Rs 6,250 crore.

Passenger Amenities:

● The metro offers bolsterless bogies and Automatic Fare Collection

(AFC) gates for passenger comfort.

Expansion Plans:

● Telangana government is spearheading the expansion through

 ● The Old City metro rail project will include a 5.5 km stretch from
MGBS to Falaknuma with stations at Salarjung Museum, Charminar,
Shalibanda, and Falaknuma.
● The line will extend 1.5 km further to Chandrayangutta, connecting to
the planned Nagole-LB Nagar-Chandrayangutta-Mailardevpally-P7
Road-Shamshabad Airport line.
