Gandhi’s birthday is commemorated as the International Day of Non-

Violence.
Gandhiji was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize 5 times, but never
won it actually.
Gandhi was also born on Friday, India attained its freedom on Friday
and the Mahatma was also martyred on Friday.

He was a simple man with vast ideas and he always gives a message to others
that "Be the change you wish to see in the world".

According to a popular anecdote, when Gandhiji visited Rabindranath

Tagore at Shantiniketan in the year 1915, he greeted him with a 'Namaste
Gurudev'. On hearing this, Tagore's reply was, "If I am Gurudev, you are
Mahatma". Since then Mahatma, which means a great soul, has become
popular as his first name.

Lal Bahadur Shastri

Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India. He promoted the White Revolution –
a national campaign to increase the production and supply of milk. Shastri also promoted
the Green Revolution in India in 1965. This led to an increase in food grain production, especially
in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

His slogan "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" ("Hail to the soldier; Hail to the farmer") became very popular
during the Indo-Pak war of 1965.

In school days, Shastri would swim across the Ganges twice a day with his book
tied on top of his head since he didn’t have enough money to take the boat.
During freedom struggle when he was in jail, Shastri’s wife would get a pension
of Rs 50 per month. Shastri’s wife once informed him that she saved rs 10 from
the money. Irked with her, Shastri asked the Servants of People’s Society to
reduce his pension and give Rs 10 to some needy.
A man with high self-esteem and morals, Shastri did not own
a car even after becoming the Prime Minister of India. After
pestering from family members, Shastri finally asked his
secretary to find out the price of a Fiat car. The cost turned
out to be Rs. 12,000 and Shastri was short of Rs. 5000. As a
result, he applied for a car loan which was sanctioned to
him in a jiffy. The bank officer was immediately summoned
and inquired whether the bank was equally swift in
sanctioning of loans to other customers also.

Education
The best brains of the nation may be found on the last benches of the classroom.
All of us do not have equal talent. But, all of us have an equal opportunity to
develop our talents.

Dreams
You have to dream before your dreams can come true.
A dream is not something which you see while sleeping. It is something that
does not let you sleep.

Success
If you want to shine like the Sun, first burn like the Sun.
Winners are not those who never fail but those who never quit.

Life
Two rules for a peaceful life:-
Depression in failure should never go to heart, and ego in success should never
go to the brain.
Never be a prisoner of your past. It was just a lesson, not a life sentence.
