ROSTERS UPDATED AS OF 3/12/12

Welcome to some serious fantasy baseball. Below you will find each teams roster, along with the associated dollar value of each player as of the end of the 2011 regular season. This keeper league allows you to keep as many or as few players from one year to the next as each manager chooses. This system of keeping players from year to year should reward managers who find young talent early and are active in the league. This should make each managers decisions more closely analogous to a real MLB general manager than the previous format. Consequently, if youre looking to show off how good a judge of major league talent you are, this is where you will have your chance. At this point we all have a roster of players. Each teams roster consists of a mixture of player types for purposes of assessing their dollar value. For valuation purposes, player types are: 1. Originally Drafted Players. If a player was drafted by you in our original draft and has remained on your team to date, his value is the value that you originally paid for him. For example, Michael Zaradich drafted Paul Konerko in the original draft for $7. Konerkos value is $7. Pretty simple, right? 2. Players Picked Up in Free Agency. Regardless of his previous status, any player picked up in Free Agency (FA) during a season has a value of $1. The important issue to remember is that the players previous status is irrelevant once he becomes a free agent. For example, if Mike Zaradich had dropped Konerko during the season and Konerko had cleared waivers and become a free agent, anyone could pick up Konerko and have the value of $1 for him. 3. Players Purchased in Waivers. Over the past season, we did our waivers system via a bidding process. Each team had a Waiver Budget in which to bid on players before they passed through to become free agents. If you acquired a player via a waiver purchase, the amount of your purchase becomes the new value of the player. For instance, Kelly Johnson was drafted for $8 last year. Eventually he was dropped and went through the waiver process. He was claimed off of waivers before coming a free agent for $5 by John Lines. Kelly Johnsons value is $5. 4. Players Acquired Via Trades. We didnt have too much trading this year, but I think thats a function of the fact that this is a veteran league where people dont just trade for the sake of trading. However, we did manage a few deals. If you acquired a player in a trade, you take his current value on.

For all you math majors out there, you can see that making moves of almost any kind will alter the aggregate value of your team. Accordingly, even though each team started with a value of approximately $2601 the teams values are now different because of the moves each manager has made. For the last day and a half, Ive gone through the system and done these calculations by hand. I am 99% sure they are accurate, but I became a lawyer because Im bad at math. Also, Im human. So double-check me for the values of each player on your respective team. If you see a discrepancy, let me know. As before, the baseline budget for the draft is $260. Therefore, if you give up 100% of your players, you will start with $260 players and no one. If you give up 0% of your players, you dont need to participate in the draft anyway, because you will already have a full roster. Well work the kinks out was we go, but I expect almost everyone to have a few drops. But maybe theres a bold soul out there whos so happy with their team, their already set to go for 2012. In any event, this is your first chance to make a strategic decision about the nature of your team. Optional events include making trades. If you want to make a trade with another manager during the off-season, you are free to do so up until the period from keeper declaration through the following draft. Simply let the commissioner know of the trade and it will be reflected on the roster of each team. There is no adding, dropping, waivers, or free agency during the offseason. You can only make trades. This is pretty much everything I can think to cover at this point. As always, if you have any questions, the best way to air them out is via an e-mail to me.
