AAC SPECIFICATION CONCRETE BLOCKS 1 SCOPE

This specification details the additional requirements for five types of solid concrete blocks that comply with the requirements of SANS 1215 for use underground in mines. This specification shall be read in conjunction with SANS 1215.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS TO BE SPECIFIED BY THE COMPANY


The following requirements shall be specified in tender invitation and in orders or contracts:

Title, number, issue and date of this specification. The block type (see clause 4.1). The dimensions of the block (see clause 4.2) The AAC stockcode.

DEFINITIONS
For the purpose of this specification, the following definitions shall apply: APPROVED : Approved by the Engineer in writing. LOT : One days production of concrete blocks produced from one concrete block making machine. SANS : South African National of Standards. The following terms are defined in the General Conditions of Contract: AAC, Company, Contractor. Engineer.

REQUIREMENTS
The concrete block shall comply with the requirements of SANS 1215 and the requirements of this specification. Where variations exist between this specification and SANS 1215 then the requirements of this specification shall prevail.

4.1

TYPE
There shall be five types of concrete blocks, Types A, B, C, D and E. Type A block shall conform to the requirements of AAC drawing No. 9900/0/2704, Type B to AAC drawing No. 9900/0/2705, Type C to AAC drawing No. 9900/0/2719, Type D to : AAC drawing No. Y2140 and Type E to AAC drawing No. Y2346.

4.2

DIMENSIONS
The dimensions of the concrete blocks shall comply with the requirements of the relevant AAC drawing.

4.3

COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH
When tested in accordance with the requirements of Clause 6.2 the concrete blocks shall have a nominal compression strength of 14MPa in accordance with the requirements of SANS 1215.

5 5.1

QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS QUALITY MANAGEMENT


The requirements of QAP 101 shall apply.

Each delivery of concrete blocks shall be accompanied by a despatch or delivery note which shall contain the following information: TABLE 1: SAMPLING PLAN FOR INSPECTION AND COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH LOT SIZE (maximum) 57000 SAMPLE SIZE ACCEPT *REJECT

*If the acceptance number has been exceeded but the rejection number has not been reached, accept the lot but reinstate normal inspection. (see BS 6001 Clause 10.1.4) This table is extracted from BS 6001 (single reduced) Tables I and II-C.

6 6.1

TEST AND INSPECTION METHODS DIMENSIONS


The dimensions of the concrete blocks shall be measured using acceptable measuring methods. The concrete blocks shall be inspected from the sample taken in accordance with the requirements of Table 1 and shall comply with the requirements of Clause 4.2 and further comply with SANS 1215.

6.2

COMPRESSIVE TEST
The sample taken for inspection in accordance with the requirements of 6.1 shall, if it complies with the requirements of Clause 6.1 be used for the compressive test. The compressive test method shall comply with the test requirements of SANS 1215 and the results of the tests shall comply with the requirements of Clause 4.3.

7 7.1

MARKING LOADING AND STORING MARKING


Each delivery of concrete blocks shall be accompanied by a despatch or delivery note which shall contain the following information:

The type of concrete block. The AAC stockcode. Date of manufacture. The lot number. The dimensions of the block.

7.2

LOADING AND STORING


Concrete blocks shall be handled and stored in a manner which will not cause damage or defects.
