2.4.1 ANTENNAGAIN
Antennagainisusuallymeasuredincomparisontoadipole.Adipoleactsmuchlikethefilamentofaflashlight bulb:itradiatesenergyinalmostalldirections.Onebulblikethiswouldprovideverydimroomlighting.Adda reflectorcapableofconcentratingalltheenergyintoanarrowangleofradiationandyouhaveaflashlight.Within thatbrightspotonthewall,thelightmightbeathousandtimesgreaterthanitwouldbewithoutthereflector. Theresultingbulbreflectorcombinationhasagainof1000,or30dB,comparedtothebulbalone.Gaincanbe achievedbyconcentratingtheenergybothverticallyandhorizontally,asinthecaseoftheflashlightandYagi antenna.Gaincanbealsobeachievedbyreducingtheverticalangleofradiation,leavingthehorizontalalone.In thiscase,theantennawillradiateequallyinallhorizontaldirections,butwilltakeenergythatotherwisewould havegoneskywardsanduseittoincreasethehorizontalradiation. Alineofsight(LOS)pathbetweenstationsishighlydesirableandprovidesthemostreliablecommunicationslink inallcases.Alineofsightpathcanoftenbeachievedbymountingeachstationantennaonatowerorother elevatedstructurethatraisesithighenoughtoclearsurroundingterrainandotherobstructions. Therequirementforacleartransmissionpathdependsonthedistancetobecoveredbythesystem.Ifthesystem istocoveralimiteddistance,say35miles,thensomeobstructionsinthetransmissionpathmaybetolerable.For longerrangesystems,anyobstructioncouldcompromisetheperformanceofthesystem,orblocktransmission entirely. CalAmp warrants to the original purchaser for use ("Buyer") that data telemetry products manufactured by DRL ("Products") are free from defects in material and workmanship and will conform to DRL's published technical specificationsforaperiodof,exceptasnotedbelow,one(1)yearfromthedateofshipmenttoBuyer.DRLmakesno warranty with respect to any equipment not manufactured by DRL, and any such equipment shall carry the original equipmentmanufacturer'swarrantyonly.DRLfurthermakesnowarrantyastoandspecificallydisclaimsliabilityfor, availability,range,coverage,gradeofserviceoroperationoftherepeatersystemprovidedbythecarrierorrepeater operator.Anyreturnshippingchargesforthirdpartyequipmenttotheirrespectiverepairfacilitiesarechargeableand willbepassedontotheBuyer. IfanyProductfailstomeetthewarrantysetforthaboveduringtheapplicablewarrantyperiodandisreturnedtoa locationdesignatedbyDRL.DRL,atitsoption,shalleitherrepairorreplacesuchdefectiveProduct,directlyorthrough an authorized service agent, within thirty (30) days of receipt of same. No Products may be returned without prior authorization from DRL.
