Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands Plant Conservation Workshop Biology Department Auditorium, University of Puerto Rico, Mayagez

Campus 25-27 June 2012 Overview of Participants Workshop attendees included a diversity of audiences including university students (BSc, MSc. and Ph.D.), researchers, faculty members, an emeritus professor, a post doc, natural resources managers and specialists, foresters, an entomologist, agronomists, botanists, a lichenologist, an Associate Dean, herbarium managers and curators, field technicians, private consultants, environmental interpreters, naturalists, environmentalists, biologists, and the general public that represented an assortment of affiliations. Nineteen participants traveled from six countries to attend this workshop, including the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Jamaica, and the United States (Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, Washington DC). Papo Vives Heyliger who was recently awarded a Doctor honoris causa by the UPR Mayagez for recognizing him as an individual whose accomplishments are of such excellence that by means they provide inspiration and direction to the university community. He was also recognized by the University for been widely recognized and highly valued for his achievements in the botanical field and for promoting strong bonds of collaboration and assisting and educating many students and researchers who worked with the Puerto Rican flora.
