Paul was a Pharisee who zealously persecuted the church until his conversion on the road to Damascus. After initial preaching in Damascus and Arabia, he went to Jerusalem and later Antioch, from where he embarked on two missionary journeys with Barnabas and Silas, preaching in synagogues and establishing churches throughout Asia Minor. Upon returning to Antioch, he attended the Jerusalem Council to address Gentile inclusion. Paul then began a third missionary journey during which he wrote several letters before being arrested in Jerusalem.
